Round 1 of AMRA Desert State Championship Series kicked off this past weekend outside Prescott on Sheridan Mountain. Crazy, slippery, loose, switchback, climbs and descents and granite step ups and step downs. We don't have anything like it down here I've found. Good time. Round 2 is later this month on the 22nd at MCMP for those interested. Placed 2nd in my Super Seniors class and 22nd overall. 20 of 79 riders in my class didn't finish. It was tough.

Gates officially open at 1000. Mark should be there by 0900. If drag area is taken I'm parking over at Vet track. Looks like several bikes showing up. At least 3 x 500's. big thumper time!

@oldfuddy I would like to take my son out to this. Is there a good place for just spectators?

@SOLOKLR - not for practice, but a little during racing. today i expect about 5-7 guys practicing desert loops. Also believe the Club putting on the race on the 22nd will be there with a few bikes scouting the course (course won't be known except for those marking it the day prior). There's good places to watch the MX guys on the MX track, but that is usually closed during the day for Maintenance to support night practice or night racing. I don't know when they go to winter hours. Winter hours the mx track is open during the day.

As for watching practice for the desert loops, no good place to watch. The loops are all out of sight of the main track. You'd just hear the bikes and see dust clouds.

During the AMRA Race on the 22nd, (if it's anything like last year) you'd be able to watch the start and Enduro Cross section, then the bikes would be gone for about 20-30 mins and return for another lap.

If your son has never seen AA Pros leave the line and do the endurocross, that alone would be exciting for him and worth admission. Those guys are crazy good and their bikes hook up quick. I don't race until after the pros so I get off my bike and watch the pros leave as it's just stupid insane.

EDIT: depending on how old for kid is, on race day the mini's (50, 65, 85cc) will go before the big bikes. They are fun to watch as well. Future of the sport.

@oldfuddy thanks. Good luck on your upcoming race. We will probably be there on the 22nd. Gives us an excuse to get out of the house for a bit.

Spaces are filling up quickly, sign up ends Oct 18th. No Walk up available.

Be apart of the first true Adventure bike ride.

Welcome to the registration page for the “Howlin’ at the Moon” 2-Day Adventure Overnight to Young ride. This ride is an actual 2-day point-to-point route to Young, Az with free overnight tent camping and limited hotel rooms available at extra cost.

ATR is excited to be offering this optional ride for our Adventure riders and we’ve teamed up with the Arizona Adventure Riders Group (AARG) to make it happen. The AARG members are experts at Arizona Adventure riding and they have put together an awesome ride.

The entry fee for this ride is $110 per rider which covers breakfast buffet Sat morning at the Elks lodge in Payson, Chef prepared dinner at the Antlers Café Young Sat evening, and breakfast Sunday morning. Passengers ride for free but must purchase additional meal tickets.

*Note* There are two options for this ride. You can ride on your own and your own pace or join up with the AARG group for a guided ride (20 riders max). Please be sure to purchase the appropriate ticket.

The ride is GPS only, no roll chart is available, and the tracks will be emailed to all registered partcipants prior to the event.

Dry tent camping is available at the Antler’s. Firewood and bathrooms are available.

There is limited lodging available in Young for Saturday night so we recommend you make your reservations as soon as possible. We recommend the Pleasant Valley Inn 928-462-3593 or Dead Broke Inn 928-462-4022.

On Saturday, after breakfast at the Elks Lodge, we have a 230 mile ride (approx 75% dirt) planned which will take you North from Payson through the pines, past creeks and lakes, to Winslow where you are on your own for lunch. From there you will head back south back towards the town of Young for a chef prepared dinner at the Antler's Café. Fyi, we have a special surprise destination along the route that day with more details coming.

Fuel will be available in Winslow at lunchtime and in Young upon arrival.

On Sunday after breakfast at the Antlers we have a 100 mile route (approx 50% dirt) that will take us south from Young toward Roosevelt Lake and back to Payson.

GPS files will be provided for Sat/Sun routes. Riders can choose to ride the routes on their own, or you can opt to ride with the AARG group (max 20 people).

Participants MUST show proof of AMA membership at Check-In. If you are not an AMA member there is a 2-Day AMA membership available for $20.

Pre-Registration is open through October 18, 2017. After October 1 price goes up $10.00.

Friday Night Fish Fry at the Elks Lodge in Payson is open to participants but not included in entry fee.

Keep in mind proceeds for this event and raffle go toward the ATR effort of keeping Arizona's riding trails open.

If you need to cancel for any reason a 100% refund is available until October 1, 2017. After October 1, 2017 a 50% refund is available. Please contact Don Hood at 602-692-9382 or the1phxman@gmail.com to request a refund.

Any questions please contact Don Hood 602-692-9382 or Frank Staley 623-486-1271.

Oh Lordy the dust at MCMP is really really bad right now. Hope for rain before the event. If anyone is planning on racing bring bandanas or wolf masks. Even spectators might want bandanas.

Rode up to the Coolidge Airport for their monthly fly-in/breakfast this morning. Ran into one of my PHX riding buddies there. The usual assortment of Cessnas and Pipers were there but a couple of standouts showed-up.

This Pitts Special did several high-speed low passes and climbed out at about 60 degrees:

My tire rack is full, purging some tires. All with about 50% left. Free. They are going to the dump this weekend if nobody can use them. Pair of Scouts 90/90 21 and a 150 rear. Mx81 AT 120/18, and a 140/18 908. Let me know and I can meet someone on south side of town if you want one or all.

    Edit: here's a pic.

Being convinced to liquidate some items during a move. Before dealing with CL thought someone on here might be interested. Got this little refrigerator. Good for the garage. Dent on side but clean and works. $40.

    Any muffler burns on them?

I've done about all I'm comfortable with doing on the melted one. The hardened rubber is looking pretty sketchy. I'd be surprised if the 140 fits my DR swingarm, but just got a tire changer and the price is right, so I'll take you up on the mx and 908 rears!
