It is only legal for Illegals splitting when the fuzz arrives. Everything is legal for them in Kalifornia.

Thanks for that link. Looks pretty simple and straight forward to me.

I lived in Orange County/LA area for about 8 years. The first time I did lane splitting was on a vacation on a K100RT coming into the LA area between Riverside and LA metro. Traffic stopped way back and a Goldwing came by and I followed. What a rush.

Then after I moved there, it was pretty easy. I didn't split all the time, just when traffic was gridlocked. If it was moving and I was getting enough air across the engine, I was fine.

Tucson becoming a motorcycle friendly town, I'm all for it. Don't know how I feel about driving a bike in Phoenix, but this surely couldn't hurt.

Got a flyer in the mail this week about Scoot Over closing shop this month. I guess the liquidation is starting.

az is pretty much still a redneck state, i can forsee people getting pissed watching the scooters cruising to the head of the line at a stop light and getting some kind of revenge. between roadrage, texting,no driver license or insurance i forsee many unfortunate injury's or deaths the first couple years if this bill was to pass.you couldn't pay me to spilt a lane in tucson, even knowing i'm in the right doing it. if someone intentionally damages you and your bike there's noway to prove they did it intentionally and if they have no license or insurance and rent a mobile home with 10 other derelicts you will have to pay for your own losses.

Everyone takes their own chances. I think the law should pass. Riders that want to split, can, those that don't can keep riding the way they do now.

Agreed on all counts. If it passes, I'd start with lane filtering. Depending on how smoothly that goes I'd then move on to lane splitting.

No doubt a lot of public education will be in order.

Filtering up to the red light in the heat of summer, I might do that. I highly doubt I would ever be comfortable with splitting.
I recently started working as the brewer at Button Brew House. It's 20miles across town from me. I've been using Ina from the far east side to I-10. It moves pretty good and I've been able to make that commute in 40min or less each time so far. Traffic is heaviest this time of year with all the snow birds, kids in school, holidays etc. In the summer, that ride is gonna be F-ing hot but traffic will be less. Some filtering to the red light might be nice just to keep the air moving.

I am not a night person. I like to be up early and get my day done.

I think "filtering" is low speed driving between stopped cars at a light to "filter" to the front of the line. Helps avoid sandwiches, among other things.
Lane splitting is in moving traffic, if I understand correctly.

I hope the legislation passes. It'll be like slow single track on pavement.

It would have been great to split/filter riding through town returning from that Springerville ride. I'm not holding my breath though... too many ignorant, fear mongering, knuckle dragging stumpfucks in this state for this to go through.

Met up with @Twentyniner today and hatched a plan to do a Border run over the Huachucas to Patagonia for coffee and then ride clockwise around the Santa Ritas. It was a super fun ride today.
