    Well with that said prop, I will hang the bike at my house from the rafters. I clean the chain this way already so just need to get the front up which should be no problem.

    Driving the truck will be easier to get the beer and pie to your location anyways :clap

    It almost always just hooks up and does a wee little wheelie. I suck at wheelies. :lol3

    Okey dokey.

    One day I'll get paddock stands, but I don't really need them for any of my bikes at the moment, which is why I don't have them. Amazing, eh?

    Last time I jacked the bike up on the footpeg to get the front wheel, on the swingarm for the rear. It worked fine. It's not ideal, but it's OK. I also have an engine hoist to hold it, so basically, whichever way you want to do it is fine. Certainly the job will go much more quickly if we're only dealing with loose wheels.

    loose will work. I'v never taken the wheels off it yet so should be fun lol

    I had emailed hitching post (fridley) over the weekend to see how much they would charge (wheels on the bike):
    $55/tire if bought from them
    $60/tire if not bought from them

    If I recall correctly it was $10/tire cheaper with loose wheels.

    $100-$120 is crazy talk!

    If I bought the tools they would be paid for in 2-4 uses!

    $55 for a mounted wheel tyre change is pretty good really. Once you have removed your wheels, and we have changed the tyres and balanced them, you'll see that is a fair price, remembering the shop has overheads to cover, and also has to turn some sort of profit.

    For your average motorcyclist, who puts maybe 3000 miles on in a year, this is reasonable.

    Enthusiastic nutjobs like us go through rather more tyres, so it adds up fast, and also becomes time consuming, having to get to a dealer and wait.

    So being able to do it ourselves makes a lot more sense.

    Guy at worked just stopped in and said he's got a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 with leather bags and tassels ( :lol3 ) he's looking to sell.

    Ran when parked (we know this story - minimum it needs a carb rebuild) - low miles - good tires (yeah right) - blablabla

    $350 :eek1

    I was surprised. Usually when these goofs tell me about this type of thing they think it's worth a bazillion dollars.

    That actually sounds like a pretty reasonable deal. Anyone interested, let me know.

    And fork seals, fork oil, tyres, head bearings, cam cover gasket, front master cylinder rebuild, brake hoses, brake pads, brake shoes, engine oil and filter, carburettor intake rubber, air filter..................

    Correct. For any 200 to 400 dollar bike, assume that you need about 1000 bucks to make it run properly and safely.

    Obviously getting it running in the bare minimum way is different. Only 950 bucks needed for that. :fpalm

    Oh - I forgot - battery.

    His line: It has a brand new battery I bought a few years back when I was planning on getting it on the road again.

    Me: Um... Yeah... you see... batteries can't just sit around, weathering winters and whatnot, and remain brand new :rofl

    I'd be interested in checking that out. The Mrs. roped me into finding a bike for someone on her team that just took the MSF course and got her license. She doesn't want to spend more than $900 :huh , so this should be... interesting.

    That is for grills, although that FJ1200 could use a little of that treatment, before I succumb to (even more) foolish ideas of getting it running.

    If she does end up with it Spike make sure you take the tassels off before handing it over. Chick owned or not, no bike deserves to have tassels attached to it.
