bringing in the firewood!
Great thread! We're switching over to an adventure bike in the coming months. Something I've wanted for a while but wasn't prepared to let go of the sportier road ride...even as I looked wantonly down the gravel roads and side trails. Rode a BMW GSA around New Zealand, although only on the road the comfort for both of us and easy riding style was a real eye opener.
There's a thread for a RR called 2up the hard way on the TAT (something like that) I gather it's pretty 'adventuring' for 2up.
This is a video that we rode two up.
Gonzaga Bay, Baja Mexico
In my sig line below.
Baja trip was 2 up while in Baja. Kootenay trip was 2 up.
Two-up? That's a bit limiting, isn't it?
Oh, OK, sometimes two is plenty when the luggage is on....
Many motorcycle riders, ride solo
I did for years. Riding two-up can be one of motorcyclings great experiences, especially if you and your passenger enjoy a trip across a few state lines.
Riding two-up is a great way to share the pleasures of motorcycling for even a day ride.
In my view, a motorcycle-date is the best date. It starts with a spirit that is full of excitement
.. a great way to begin any day of riding
An appreciation for shared riding and open roads has been the topic of many of our conversations over many shared miles.
Conversations about landmarks, the country side in general, the people you meet, all of this and more as you ride en route to your destination.
We seem to arrive feeling invigorated from the days ride
. ready to continue more conversations of the day and what tomorrow brings. Its become pretty clear, Im no longer a solo rider.
I enjoy immensely when we stop
. shut off the bike, and dismount. Then when we remove and pull off our helmets, Im greeted with a big smile and kiss.
My rider is a great date, my partner-in-life
. who isnt simply along for the ride
Shes a co-rider. And as in life in general, she too shares responsibilities for the safe operation of the motorcycle. Two-up riding is a team sport, and that means working together to make the ride both safe and fun.
Yes, two-up makes for a great date
On the way to pick up her new bike a couple of hundred miles away.
Later that weekend at the dealer "0" miles
We take the old XL500R out two up for some dirt adventures..and the wife likes it..she prefers when we go dirt riding more than riding on the street.
these are from a 60mile day trip up the mountain to get some beers..all dirt
the old two up machine with its home made passenger pegs that sit nice and low so she dont feel cramped up on the bike..the factory ones mounted right to the swing arm :eek1
wifey posing on a fireroad
plus she can take pics when i am busy
and finally what we rode to get.
two up riding is fun..we had to put it on the back burner for now..wife was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and is currently going threw chemo treatment..but the plan is once she is back in good enough health we are gonna hit the trails again..but now on my KLX650R but i got to figure out something with the seat she only rode on it once and said it was not as nice as the big cushy XL500
I wish that my wife and I would have been riding at your age. Your pictures say everything. We're praying for a quick and total recovery for your wife! then get out there and have fun!
2-up is all about what's around the next bend..... and all the fun in between
yup we cant wait to get back out there
? Can't post a pic. Oh well. Figured it out, yea!
