looks like as the weather is showing faint signs of getting better come September, guys are dusting cobwebs off their bikes and getting ready to ride.

anybody planning a ride, please feel free to post up here so that other inmates can join up.

I'm planning a dual sport ride to the mountains in Oman as well as Wahiba desert by Oct-Nov depending on work. Will post up ride plans once i finalise it.

I might be going this Friday. Leaving at 05.15AM from Dubai Marina area towards Hatta. I think I'll ride unpaved route close to Oman border (north of Hatta). Beat the heat!

    Cheers,
    Pim

    What a coincidence.

I was planning on going from Hatta pools to ash shiyah this Friday.

    What's your pace like?

    Morning Hedonist222,

Planning to ride a part of this route the other way (from south to north). http://adventures.garmin.com/nl-NL/by/pimvddoel/2014-07-eid-motor-trip/#pois/img-0869

On the other hand, did not ride in the Hatta Pools area yet. Isn`t that mostly asphalted/paved by now? I rode there with the car about 2 years ago and they were working on paving the rocky road from Hatta pools going south. Do you mean this route? https://www.google.nl/maps/dir/Hatt...06465c295714cb6!2m2!1d56.0521754!2d24.6682532

How does your schedule look like tomorrow?

    Hi Pim,

I'm going to be out the door by 4.30am tomorrow - in order to be on the bike by first light.

I won't be riding the bike to the spot. I'll put it on a trailer.
It takes an hour to reach Hatta from Jumeira.

    Hi all.

Does anyone know the rules and regulations about leaving a foreign registered in Dubai? It's registered in Australia and I've got a carnet for it.

I'm currently in India on my way to UK but I want to store it for the winter and fly home and work for 5 or 6 months.

Can it be done in Dubai? My other option is to ride all the way to Kyrgyzstan and leave it in Osh. Not a bad plan B as that'll put me in the Pamir Mountains but I really want to ride around Oman and some desert riding in Dubai, plus its closer. I also skydive and want to come back and jump at the DZ there.

Any help and info would be great.

    Thanks a lot

    Mark

I think you will be ok for up to six months after the entry date. Not sure if this only applies for GCC registered vehicles, but when I was moving from Dubai to Salalah, I was looking for ways to avoid export and re-registration of my GS in Oman, and I am pretty sure they had told me that I can drive around in Oman on UAE plates for up to six months after the entry date...

Salalah is a good 1200kms away from the UAE border and Yemen was not an option so I opted for the export solution.

Edit: It seems it was 3 months, but check these posts here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/middle-east/foreigners-cannot-drive-their-own-40526

    Hi guys,

I am planning a 1-day trip to Oman crossing the border to Oman at Dibba Alhisn.

I hear mixed stories about the crossing not being available for Expats (unless they have a Golden Tulip hotel reservation and let the hotel advise the border that we're coming). Only GCC nationals can cross.

Anyone know what the current status is? :deal

    Thanks in advance!

I'd be keen to learn the answer to this too! GT in Khasab is well known to me but didn't know it could affect checkpoint access??

The UAE border crossing at Dibba is not able to issue tourist visas so has limited access. I'm not sure what the sketch is for GCC nationals but expats require a pass issued by a company (hotel or dhow operator) on the Oman side registered with the Sharjah police that operate the border.

Even if you get access at that border you can't get much further into musendam than about 40km because of the Omani border post at the end of Wadi Khab Shamsi. That one only lets GCC nationals through
