my .02 is that the battery is a non-issue if used wisely. Sure, if you have the phone on with the brightness full blast and multiple apps going at once while sucking up data, it will be. But if the screen unit is used conservatively these batteries will last the length of the ride without issue. Keep a battery pack at the read and simply plug it in whenever you take extended stops. But in all honesty, unless you're riding for 8 hours straight without any breaks, you really shouldn't even have to. Just charge it when you get to your destination.

My brigadier's battery is smaller than both of these units and I have run out of battery twice (my own fault) in 4-5 years of usage.

The screen size of the XD for me is just too big but that's a personal preference. Since I rarely use the unit for navigating on road i like a smaller unit that wont bounce on the handlebars as much. I actually even prefer the old Brigadier over the Pro because of it. I've never had any issues with the Brigadier's lack of power (RAM) running multiple apps at once so I really doubt you'll have any issues with either of the newer units.

To me, if you ride more on road and prefer the bigger screen, XD. If not, Pro.

I've been using my Pro for a bit & must disagree about the battery. I do regularly ride 8+ hours without significant breaks, so it dies on me. I turn off the screen when I'm on a long stretch, and the only app running is Locus, with the phone on airplane mode. With track recording running, it gets around 6hrs.

I built a mount with pogo pins, but have had a hard time getting the phone to stay on them firmly enough. Also apparently my ebay usb charger isn't actually putting out the claimed 2.1A, so charging is slow.

Obviously I need to address both of these issues. I'm still convinced that the phone is way better than a Garmin unit, but battery life is definitely not a non-issue.

I would try to figure something out with wireless charging as it'll be easier and less finicky.

Strange. I haven't done a complete test 100 to 0 on the Pro but I've used it all day and never dropped below 30%.

I actually left my Brigadier on all week from last weekend's ride and when I went to charge it last night it was at 13%! Of course that is at idle but still, my batteries on both phones last a good while. I rode from 7am this morning to about 11 and the Pro is at 86%.

hmm, that battery life above does sound pretty weak. in tacking mode I can ride all day and be around 80% , with minimal screen use. if in using the screen a lot, maybe 30-40%

Wow... It sounds like I may be experiencing anomalous battery life. What can I do to check if there's something else sucking it down? If I could get 10h of life out of it, i could charge it at night & get by just fine.

Edit: I just plugged the Pro into a known-good powerful wall charger. It's only gained like 4% of battery power in an hour. I think mine must have a charging problem... Is there any way to diagnose this?

Yeah that doesn't sound right at all. I still haven't charged my phone today ( it's 10:28pm) and it's at 60%.
There's got to be something running in the background that is sucking juice out of your phone.

I'm going to plug mine in right now and see how much charge it gains in an hour.

Edit: an hour later I'm at 94%.

there is an application called "ampere" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere&hl=en that can help you figure out if things are charging at full speed, which charger works best, etc and sometimes what is draining the battery. i only use it to diagnose, not all the time ;-)

try a few wall chargers and cords. some of them break internally but not bad enough to prevent SOME charging from happening. normally i see 1.5Ah to 2Ah rates on good chargers and 300maH to 400maH on crappy chargers.

you should definitely be seeing something in the neighborhood of 1.5 to 2a charging rates, or around 40% per hour increases, from good chargers.

D2D (Dust to Dawson). First three years I went was soggy/muddy/snow/slush both directions. Hours and hours and endless hours of misery.....was absolutely worth every minute!

Try different charger as well, when plugged into my mac, it won't charge for shit, but plugged into an iPad charger it charges at full speed. And definitely get an app to check charging and battery draws.

Just joined the Kyocera Pro club. 99% new in box from Swappa.com for $120. Too cheap to pass up and try as dedicated GPS on the Swedish Cow.

Going back to try and see which Perfect Squeeze fits the best.

I’ve used the regular size Squeeze for both the Pro and XD and am happy with the results. Some like the larger mount for the XD; regular size is fine for me.

I noticed several of my photos from my initial post have disappeared, is that just my browser? If so I’ll try and correct it and find those pics that vanished

Most broken links are due to Photobucket deciding to charge $400 per year for previously free photo embedding. There are several threads about it and someone has written a browser extension to work around. The block
