Thought that this would have garnered some coverage or interest on here (maybe it did and I missed it?)

Apparently from west to east, over the simpson solo and unsupported. :1drink

Is it legit...? is it comparable to the previous TK/Donny Can't and Philth/Tugboat routes/records?

Is philth planning a re-match? :ear

    Probably not...

but then again, if it's philth and Bill you're using as the yardstick when contemplating the Tranz Oz/Coast to Coast ride... then it is most likely not considered too much of a a disadvantage... more like compulsory eh? :lol3

that footage all looks westbound to me. presumably burying the fuel and water on the way for the return attempt. not riding anywhere near fast enough either

    well done to the bloke.

on the subject of burying fuel and water. can you really claim that as unsupported? whats the difference between that and having a 4wd following? and if you can do that, where does it stop? food, spare parts, tyres,(yes i know about his 1 set rule) leave swags etc? save all that weight to go faster.

not a critisicm, just wondering out loud

I'm sure I have read about this guy on here before - may not have been in it's own thread?

There was a mention of him starting though.

Does anyone know if he took the same route as TK, Phil and Bill?

Can't really compare the two if he didn't (still an impressive achievement no mater where he went).

I seem to remember Phil saying they could do it a lot quicker if they didn't stick to the TK route.

This is the third attempt I know of that hasn't been (to my knowledge) covered on ADV, Adrian Knight (I think thats his name) and a guy on an XR650r earlier in the year had a crack at it as well.

I know of another, a guy on a 640 adventure with the same rear tank set up as you trev. Apparently he was making good time but split a radiator about 8 hours out from the WA coast. The crazy thing is he was planning on turning around when he got there and setting a record for the double!

He's now sourced a 690rr for another go.

Looking at the route picture on the web site this crossing is different, Its a lot more direct using major gravel and bitumen roads.

Good effort. But I didn't know their were rules for the record.

"To try for the record, the rules are simple: 1 set of tyres, 1 motorbike, the route must include crossing the Simpson Desert and thetotal elapsed time includes all sleep, refuels and repairs. "

But instead of burying fuel etc how about only refueling at actual servos/stations etc. By having fuel buried, it's a real advantage in weight reduction and ability to control the bike. One could bury fuel every 300km and take a 690 or SE and I'm pretty sure the times will come down. Hell, send out a 4wd a day earlier to dump fuel and a lamb roast at designated points.

I agree with Marlboroughlad, having caches of fuel is technically a supported ride IMHO. If you're talking about rules for a record, then all players should be on the same playing field with regard to consumables etc.

Not detracting from the ride, but everytime I read "The rules for the record are" somewhere there's always more to it.

Anyway kudos to him, still a much better effort than I would ever make.

you guys are a pretty fickle bunch, not long ago people were condemning a bunch of blokes for being underprepared out in the Simpson, now a bloke pre-runs his route, buries his supplies for his trip, if anything over prepares for a quick ride and all of us keyboard hero's reckon he cheated or something.

I reckon that the only bloke alive to be qualified enough to comment on this is Phil Hodgens, I remember following Phil and Tugboat's ride avidly, with photo's from their support vehicle coming through, Easo's plane was the only thing able to keep up with them 2 legends.

I believe that unless you have given it a crack yourself you should just admire the blokes effort.

Now after that I'm going riding........ you other chaps monitor the keyboards.
