I thought we were doing the Big Bike route? :evil That is already available for download, and I have. Should be fine for all our bikes (big bikes). I can't wait! Cold weather should keep the bug level down. Need to get our MI OVR stickers ordered.

I have it too, but SOME people have work that is keeping us from taking a full week (or more), so this seemed like an option. This route is for 650's, so it should work for us, and it doesn't hurt to have both sets of tracks. :deal

Cannon has another thread about the UPAT and posted a 4WD route at the end of that: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20865133&postcount=28

All returned safely a few days ago. Had a blast, great route Cannon, thanks for putting together. :thumb I kept looking for a card and sure enough, our last evening sitting in the Brickside Brewery in Copper Harbor, I finally saw one.

A few notes for others who might be doing this soon. Great route/trip. Rode over and through stuff that was very fun and challenging. Sand, rocks, mud, culverts, runways, gravel, puddles, great scenery. :thumb

    1) the second culvert obstacle when heading north between St. Ignace and Raco Field is under a foot or two of water. We did not think we could get by and ended up turning around. It was fun getting out there and maybe others more experienced and daring may be able to get through. :hmmmmm

    2) The downhill between KI Sawyer and Harvey, MI was very challenging on our big bikes (KLR650, F650GS, F800GS) with some very soft, deep sand with lots of ruts. Slow going with a few tip overs. If you are not a sand monster :gdog and on a big bike, you might want to find another way around. :knary

    3) Submerged logs! Cannon's right in his warning. (guess how I know?). :p3rry

We plan to combine our photos and get a ride report done soon (it will pale in comparison to Cannon's) but have work to catch up on now. :type

You can see the culvert at the end of this video

This trip was SO much fun! Thanks Cannon!! The tracks took us to some great places we would have never seen/ridden otherwise. On one occasion I started thinking "Why the hell are we taking this road?" but then we came to a beautiful stretch of trail and it all made sense. I stopped questioning after that.

We did have some issues with sand and the submerged culvert that Zaboo mentioned above. I'm sure the sand is fine for more experienced riders and/or lighter bikes...but at a minimum, it will slow you down. It was all part of the adventure though, and I enjoyed the hell out of this ride :clap

Hey Zaboo! I chatted with you guys one of those mornings on the Gaslite General Store porch. I hope one of these years I can get a DS bike again, the route does look like a ton of fun.

Oh and there are two of Cannons cards up in the Gaslite hidden among the fish pictures.

I spied another two guys on matching Yamahas yesterday today, sporting adventure gear and ADV stickers.

I need to just start ambushing people on bikes, " HI MY NAME IS JASON. I LIKE ADV TOOOOO!!!"

Hey Jason...you're the owner of the Brickside Brewery with the 700S, yes? Great, great, great beer! :beer:freaky

It was nice chatting with you. Say "Hi" to Hannah for us :wave

We've been back a week now, and I still miss being on the trails something fierce :cry

Someone might get around to a trip report, but until then...my photos from the ride can be found HERE. They should be in order, for the most part, with each day's set ending with a shot of the GPS. The title of the photo (seen when hovering) tells which day the photo is from. Seven days total, with the first and last being travel days.

    Fantastic! Appetite seriously whetted!:thumbup

Great weather you enjoyed! It looks like we are going to be getting a whole lot more rain in the next week or so - besides the obvious drowned culvert does it appears the majority of the track could handle some more moisture without becoming a quagmire?

We really were fortunate with the weather. Each town we came to, people would say that it was "finally" nice out. Perfect temps and only a couple brief sprinkles on one day.

There were a lot of gravel and/or sand sections that would handle the rain well, but there were also some wet areas while we were there. We didn't stop much in those sections, unless someone took a digger, so not as many photos of those. One area that was wet, and technical, was track 05 of both the regular and BB versions. Cannon has it marked as "Sporty Rugged". We all managed to make it through unscathed, but Grimloc was pouring water out of his boots when we were back on the roads. :D

Yeah, the KLR was the designated wood carrier. Can't put it on a BMW! :lol3

Without the KLR those BMW guys would have been cold and hungry! :D

However, without the BMW guys I would have been without beer. :eek1 :freaky

We all had out tasks, and you can't scratch those BMWs. Oh, wait... :evil

Fun looking at your pictures and reading your remarks. I'm really happy to see people enjoy this ride. It has a lot of nice features with great riding, history, and tourism. I'm glad you got to experience it and I share your enthusiasm! I hope more people get out and give it a run.
