DAD is expecting us for the family reunion this weekend...
Kit and I went for a little ride yesterday after doing some bike work (oil, valves, sync). Him on the GS and me on his KTM. We rode back into the John Day fossil bed area, about 80mi of dirt roads and trails and a couple of creek crossings (we had a planned route - took a wrong turn for the better). All I can say is WOW. The area was spectacular and the bike even better... It was like riding a muscle bound KLR. I was very surprised by the power/powerband. Very comfortable. He has it set up to ride Two up if need be so I need to get Gina on it for a short ride tonight.
Tomorrow we get back on the road, to Hells Canyon, Lolo, Red Lodge... you know the drill, Fighter. Maybe see the Jeffery Boys when passing through Idaho. Things to do, places to go, and people to see. It is a tough life we live but it was a choice we made!
and Kit says "He's still working there?" 'Bout time! Enjoy...
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULL SHIT !!!!!!!!!!!

The Eagle Has Landed!!! Usxgs And Jim O Have Safely Arrived At Team Hq. Report To Follow.
From Bend the in-laws rode to Hell's canyon (upper part) with us and camped by a Lake where the 4th Fireworks were shot over. Pretty cool. On the run there we stopped in Mitchell to see Henry. Last time we saw him he was about 300lbs. He is now 600lbs. Timing is everything. Gina and Kit both got to feed Henry slices of apple. From there mouth - face to face - Henry took the apple from their lips with his jaws, gentle as can be, with a little tongue action. Did I mention that Henry is a BLACK BEAR!!! Gotta see the video. One of those things you say after the fact "What did I just do?"
We parted in the morning and made a run for Lewiston and Lolo. Just past Lewie I developed a pulsing vibe in 6th gear at 70mph... What the... It bothered me until we hit Montana and it was gone. No blood - No foul I guess. Lolo was specatular as usual and we ended the day in Bozeman. 4 states in one day is pretty good by my standards.
Dinner at Bozeman was at the Cat Paws Bar-Casino-Fine Dining. A guy at the campground sent us over. Gina was wondering if it was a Gentleman's Club. No such luck. $1.25 Guiness, $6.00 four piece chicken dinner, 15 TV's with sports - my kind of place.
We left Bozeman around 6 and jumped onto the interstate. Hit a breakfast joint 100 miles down where we saw the last white man wannabe Indian. This guy was dressed in a buckskin mini-skirt thing - beaded up, two long pony tails wrapped in leather, and didn't seem to speak much english. Gina said hi as he walked by and he responded with a deep, quiet "How". Okay... He then went out to his rig, some kind of bulbus, rusty, home made van - pulling a trailer with a dirt bike on it. You see all kinds on the road.
We stopped at Red Lodge, birthplace of MotoMamma (the Mayor said to say hi). The town has really grown. We left town and headed to the Beartooth and Chief J pass. We got up on the pipe, wasting no time on two and four wheel obstacles, as we climbed the mountains. Very cool ride (cold).
We continued on to Cody and then the Big Horns. Man, what awesome riding! We hit the interstate by Sheridan and got on the throttle to make up some time. We didn't stop for Cody until Buffalo, about 180 miles. Got gas, called Griz, got the weather report, and headed into a possible storm with hail, lightning, and lots of rain. We could see it. It was focused on Devils Tower area but the wind was blowing our way. The road kept us on edge as it would turn into the storm and then turn away. Do we stop or keep going? We were not in the storm but were getting closer every mile. We kept the bike at 90 trying to beat the weather. The lightning was wicked.
Gina was a nervous wreck. I was done trying to console her with the facts like the storm is really further away than it looks, the road ahead is still dry, there are small places to hide out if we need to, and Headquarters is getting closer all the time. The Gang was waiting for us. We had to ride. It got a little stressful and iffy, but we prevailed, hit no rain and made it home on fumes. These asses deserve a break!
The gang met us as we got off the bike at the AOK Kampground (new facilities in Spearfish) - Griz, Sherri, Ward, Pam, Kelly, Betty, Gordy, Jim O, and a few others. What a Welcome. We are home with family and friends. Nothing can beat that feeling! (wish the rest of you could be here )
We woke up to firecracker noise. Thanks Griz... Gina hid the rest of the fireworks after she lit off a trio while Griz was in the outdoor shower (remind you of something, Fighter?). Jim O. and I started wiring up Griz's new lights and we made plans for the days Buffalo Stampede rally events.
We hit the rally campground later and set up for the Police escort into town. There was a good number of bikes that showed up! Griz was first behind the cop car. Damn, it was slow. Used a lot of clutch on that ride. A block of Spearfish was blocked off on Main and we parked right in the middle. Vendors, music, poker walk, Brats, Beer... Great time. We met a rider from Anchorage on a F650. He was a shoe in for the distance award (by 10 miles). Gina then convinced the rally director (Aaron) to offer a two up award "because all the real rally's do". How could he argue with that? The Alaskans walked off with the awards. Of all the prizes donated, Barb's Butt Pads were the most sought after!
Live band at the campgound that night, but we had our own gathering at Headquarters. Never a dull moment around here.
Great Rally so far!!
I can hardly wait to see the movie...great reports!
I cant wait for the movie either! as my bro knows I dont like to read but they should just write a book of there ventures, they're exciting enough I wouldnt fall asleep
We (with Jim) rode Devils Tower with Kelly and Betty yesterday and we leave Spearfish tomorrow morning for Omaha? Whatever, I'm just the driver. Don't know when we will get back online, but will do what we can. Be safe everyone and we will drop some 'scribe when we can.
Roger that. Take No Prisoners! Fite
