    Hey folks:

Tomorrow I will be taking off on a 5000 mile journey from Alpine, Utah to Washington, DC, and then back again. I'm hoping to meet up with a friend and have lunch with him around DC.

As I ride across the country, I will be stopping at approximately 30 National Parks and will ride through 17 states. I am using a GPS unit that sends and receives tracking information so I have developed a Spotwalla URL that you can click and then follow my course (eh, if you are interested).

Total proposed miles are 5015, trip time is 77 hours on the bike, 42 hours off the bike - just under five days total (at a moving average of 65 MPH). 31 Gas stops. A highlight will be my stop in Washington, Illinois where I lived as a youngster for a while--I may even get off the bike for that one.

Attached is the proposed route.Wish you were all coming with me!

The bike is packed. Put on new tires yesterday, new oil filter and changed the oil today and changed the final drive shaft oil. Heated gear wasn't working so switched out the old pigtail from the fuse block and tied in a new pigtail directly to the battery - what a freakin' pain! Had to open up all the front cowling and pull back the right side plastic ('13 FJR 1300 - why couldn't they make the battery as accessible as the oil filter?) At least now I won't be cold on what looks to be a cold, wet ride. The Gerbing jacket wasn't heating, even with the new pigtail so I threw on the old standby Warm 'N Safe jacket. Packed the Gerbing just in case.

Forecast is for rain, rain and maybe some more rain. Looks like it will be a wet ride, hopefully will warm up and dry out later in the ride. Taking off in a few hours.

Returned home last week, late Sunday afternoon. Total miles about 5,200. Ride report to follow. Some cold, wet days. Incredible views, beautiful parts of America.
