I would like to come. I don’t have any rally gear and I want to learn more about how to go about getting setup.

@Simp801 I didn't explicitly state it but if people are even remotely interested in what it takes to Rally they should plan on coming out. I will have a digital setup and a traditional paper setup so people can see the different bits in person. I know it was a bit daunting when I started looking into it all and it would have been nice to look at someones setup just for reference as much as anything else. There is only so much you can glean from the internet forums!

Looks like there is some interest so let's make a plan to do this in 3 weekends. How does Saturday, February 3 work for those that have shown some interest? This is all weather dependant of course. I am sure by picking a date we will bring winter back to Utah. We can pick the location as we get closer to the date and see what the weather has done. Delle would be my first choice, unless it has snowed/rained in the days prior. 5 Mile Pass can be the backup location. This wouldn't be a super early start, say start the show and tell at 10 AM, some general rally nav gear stuff and then into the roadbook side of things. I can see that portion taking 2-3 hours and then a short loop or two of navigation for those that have some sort of setup with them.

You can PM me if you are interested instead of clogging this thread up with responses. Please let me know if you are intending to ride or just want to come and check stuff out and provide me with an email address. I will send out some group emails as we get closer to the date.

    Cheers,
    Chris

For those who aren't sure of the two riding areas I am talking about:

Delle - West of Grantsville, off I-80

5 Mile Pass - West of Lehi/Saratoga Springs

I've found that the main chunk of the knolls is rideable year round. Yes, not a not of nav stuff out there, but I'd say enough to get a 20 mile loop of trail without ending in the muck.

If there is any interest, we could follow up with some navigation rides. I have about 144 km route out of Eagle Mountain.

This is a really good idea for any of you Rally-Curious types, and you can't ask for better folks to show you the ropes... I wish you guys weren't 8 hours away.

So Matthew and I rode Cherry Creek over the holiday on Monday. We were a little surprised to find a new fence line and miles and miles of bulldozed area. Much more than the area burned out last summer. The new bulldozing seems to have happened late November early December. The area is diagonal going northwest from the Sage riders pits heading towards chicken rock. Not too happy.

Guessing the land was sold off to a private company? Should be able to look up who owns the land on the county's GIS map.

Looks like short of some freak snow storm next week it is a go for Delle for some rally navigation show and tell and instruction. I will have two routes of about 50km each for people to try if you have gear at that point. This will cover the basics with a bit of white board and discussion time, roadbook samples, and Lexicon guides to the tulips provided. All you need is a curiosity, desire or interest in rally navigation to show up. This will be uber low key and will go where the discussion takes us. No questions are stupid. I will post up a time as we get closer and get a better forecast for the day. Keeping fingers crossed for sunshine and hardly any wind. I will have a cargo trailer to keep us out of the wind. Please let me know if you can make that date so I don't sit out there twiddling my thumbs and no one shows! :fpalm

I will post up a time as we get closer and have a more accurate weather 'guesstimate'. I have an aversion to freezing my tootsies off. It is one thing to be riding in the cold but standing/sitting and talking rally stuff, while it gets my heart going, doesn't do much to warm the fingers and toes. If I had to guess I would say 10 ish... not any earlier for sure. Plenty of time for a lay in for you guys down in the valley with a short drive!

So next Saturday the 3rd? Dang. I'm really interested in a beginner lesson on this but will be out of town (on a dirt bike trip down south) that weekend. Anyone PM me if they are heading out again with this agenda in the future. I always have Sundays off and can ride as long as it's not a powder day. (Not been an issue this year, sadly)

No worries, I have the feeling that there will be another one sooner than later. Will keep you posted.

I just booked a room in Panguitch (southern Utah) during Memorial Day weekend. I plan to explore Dixie NF and Bryce Canyon on my KLX.

Can anyone familiar with the area tell me what kind of weather and trail conditions I can expect during that time of year? Thanks in advance...

Fano and I went out yesterday to proof the route at Delle for the class. It was a bit snowy/muddy in places and we didn't dare get too low near the salt flats where I was hoping to go. If it was frozen it would have been fine but we ha to suffer with 50 degree temps.... I have reworked the route a bit to avoid some snotty areas and it gets us to about 30km/20 miles to play on. Not very long but a little bit of everything except long HP sections. Looking like great weather for Saturday. Fingers Crossed. So far it looks like we have 4-5 people showing up. Might want to bring a lawn chair for the first bit so you are comfortable.

I think I’ll plan on coming down as well. I don’t have a set up but I’d like to listen in plus it would be nice to get down south out of the snow and get a little seat time in on the 350 after.

Anyone with even a slight interest in Rally should take R2L up on this offer and go hang for a few hours at Delle on Sat. He knows what he is talking about, it is free, and opportunities to learn about Rally just don't come up often. It will be a day well spent.

Sounds great! I'm guessing it'll dry out a bit with temps in the 50s and no precipitation this week.

Are you going to send out or post the road book so we can print it or load it before Saturday?

Oh, and a HUGE thank you!
