This past fall my girlfriend and I had taken a trip to the Smokey Mtns / Deals Gap area on my SV650. Ive tried to make it down there at least once every year for the past few years, but last fall was the first time 2-up. We quickly learned I needed a bigger more comfortable bike. Sold the SV and bought an 06 DL650 last October. Once I learned there was a rally, I was signed up. We decided to bring a tent and camp for the whole trip. We started out the journey on a Tuesday, traveling 750 miles from Fort Wayne Indiana to Columbus Georgia to visit relatives of my girlfriend. On the way I had to stop for a picture in front of the Corvette museum, as I had with the SV last year. Except this time there was a giant gaping hole inside that yellow structure. Stayed in Columbus Tuesday night and left around noon on Wednesday heading for Suches. The weather forecast was getting increasingly more ominous looking, and I wasnt quite sure about our idea of camping. Setting up and tearing down a tent in pouring rain didnt sound like fun, so I called ahead to TWOS and asked if any of their rooms on the second floor had been claimed. The lady said no, in fact, we would be the only people there. Since we would be arriving late she left the side door unlocked for us. Those people are so great. I was expecting just a few rooms with beds but when we got there, the whole second floor had 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, full bathroom, and a common area. And we had it all to ourselves for only $55 a night! I may never consider camping there again! Right after I parked the bike and unloaded our stuff, the sky opened up and stormed like crazy. Good idea about getting the room instead of camping here tonight.
