    My cylinder heads are at the machinist awaiting a valve job. I need to get valves and valve guides - 1983 R80.

    He advised to get aftermarket valve guides. Same advice I've seen reading various opinions on line, like Snowbum who recommends BMW valves and aftermarket guides.

    I understand that there are sources for "kits" that include valves, guides, valve springs, keepers, etc. my machinist said buying the kit is cheaper then buying everything seperate. However it's been awhile since he's order one and couldn't remember a source.

    Anyone have suggestions for a source. I'd prefer to stay in the states just to get the parts quicker, plus I've never ordered from Motobins or other overseas sources. But I'm open to suggestions.

    Here is another recent thread on the subject. Post #3 directs you to another recent thread. I'm sorry I can't answer your question directly. The choice of which guides to use with which valves is a controversial one. There is also the issue of renewing the valve seats in Airheads. Your year is one that needs the valve seats examined:

    Here is a thread with more info;

    I tried to find something with more of an explanation of the valve seat problem but will keep looking.
