The nice weather has been holding off in order for me to finish my 212K rebuild, the good news is that I am close to being finished:

Impressive. Looks like you clean like I do. Did you repaint your center stand?

You should send pictures and mileage to KTM. Impressive longevity. I thought 114K on my 990 was good. You give me hope for much more.

I pretty much repainted the whole frame along with the stand.. The drawback of year round riding on the coast is that you expose the bike to a lot more salt and moisture, the main ingredients for corrosion... I have ridden this bike through 11 of the last 13 winters so it was overdue for the frame to see some love..

Bike project is finished and insured, next up is to get some riding in... Going to look for a weather window to do the first bike camping trip of the season..

Ride days have been few and far between so far this year, after a drizzley start today turned into a perfect day to head to the west side..

It's neat to have the birds eye view, we rode in from the valley on the top right of this picture

I tried to set this , what looks like an old loran C tower, on my rear rack, but it was too heavy..

Down the inlet in this picture is Nootka Island and friendly cove.. This was where Captain James Cook made landfall in British Columbia and had his historic meeting with chief Maquinna.. After this stop over Captain Cook left Vancouver Island and headed to Hawaiian Islands where he met his demise.. One of his crew members George Vancouver, returned years later with his own command where he was commissioned to map the British Columbia coastline..

Cool, looks like you sorted out your GPS mount. I'd suggest to girth-hitch the GPS lanyard around your bars as a backup DAMHIK...

Leaving Montreal for the Island in just over a month! Waiting on some KLR parts and have to sort out moving-house.
Should be a good cross-Canada ride, then back to a life of logging roads and wild camping.

That's a good idea. I've been deep in trails and bounced the GPS off the bike without noticing. Fortunately I remembered the hard landing and it was only a couple km back. I hadn't realized up to that point how much faith I had in "following the green line" back to pavement.

Yeah I saw this on the trail a couple seasons ago. If you were to look up irony in the dictionary...

Rode up Island last weekend. I was visiting my parents, but wanted to get out for the first camp of the year.

    IMG_1907.jpg

Went to see if the Comox gate was open, and it was!

    IMG_1911.jpg

So I got to camp at Willemar Lake.

    IMG_1925.jpg

I finally got the good spot, and there were even coals going when I got there so had a nice fire! Got the tent up just in time for a short downpour too!

I did some exploring the next day, and realized that I was on the wrong road last year when I tried to find Nimnim Lake. I'm pretty sure I found the correct road now, and that should provide a way to the Alberni Valley once the snow melts.

Looks like I was the first to cross this year!

    IMG_1918.jpg

    Oh...Not quite the first!

    IMG_1920.jpg

Didn't get much further than that, but I did hit 96,000kms!

Had dinner with the folks, stayed the night there, and I found time to do some trail on the way back on Monday, and somehow dodged all the rain! I was being chased by a storm all the way from Comox, but it got nice further south, and was super warm out by the time I got to Shawnigan! Pretty good long weekend if you ask me.

Ride Sunday out of Campbell River.. Leave from the 19/28 Chevron at 8:30 - 9:00 am , the plan is to scout out the passes to see if they are open.

I'd love to be there... I just got laid off from the shipyards, so I'll be up that way looking for work!

It's a bit wet to be heading up today, but I'm sure I'll be around in the coming days...

It's damned cool out today too, would not be fun to be riding in it... Supposed to taper off tonight and be half decent tomorrow...
