I am thinking of riding Lake Cowichan to Bamfield then Port Alberni on Saturday....possibly Gold River/Thasis/Woss on Sunday as well. How are those gravel roads? Is there a chance any will be closed?

The roads to and from Bamfield are open and likely very dusty.
Check out http://www.wfproadinfo.com/ and also their Facebook and twitter updates for the latest road conditions

The only routes into bamfield are gravel, so they won't likely be shut unless there is a fire. Rick's tip above is good. Gold River -> Tahsis is in the same category. Woss and Gold River have pavement access, beyond that I can't comment. Hmm, following Rick's tip: http://www.wfproadinfo.com/tahsis.html suggests all ok (but dusty) as Rick suggested.

There's an older, black Triumph Tiger parked in my neighbours driveway in North Saanich. That you Ken?

Not likely, I was in Trenton ON then. Now back home prepping the Tiger for riding the last few weeks before off to Australia for some 2 wheel adventuring in Queensland. Will be on a DR650 there. Yippee!

If it's still there, please pass on my name & ADV PM location or email fishnbiker@yahoo.ca to connect. Thx. See you at the Bike Show?

Just got back from holidays: spent a few days in Sooke, sampling the fishing and local establishments. Saw tons of sport bikes. Popped in to Kenco to get a sense of the area for, now, next years return trip with my bike quiver. You guys have some fine fine riding there.

This thread has been pretty quiet, the last bunch of rides I have done on the Island have not produced many pictures... We did do a 10 day outing that has an RR in progress here: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/10-days-to-play-late-summer-17.1256499/

I did manage to get a bunch of pics from this past weekends ride which I'll post to bring this thread back to page 1..

I rode out to scout the creeks for fish and bears... Most of creeks are still pretty dry from our long summer so no fish will be moving in till after some good rain, maybe a couple weeks..
The one river had a bunch of fish in it and therefore bears as well...
Another empty river waiting for rain..
    Looking out Nootka way
    [IMG]

I saw 8 bears, most were still scavenging for plants and berries as no fish...

Gore Island at the entrance to Muchalat inlet...
A couple more from different angles, would of been nice with a little bit of sun shining..
But no complaints as the forecast was for rain and I never saw a drop..

He's done a lot of peddling around in a short while, only living here for 2 years, especially when you consider what we do in one day motorized would take 4-7 days on a bicycle .. Most of the stuff he has listed we ride regularly on dual sports...

Three of us got out for a ride around East Klanawa yesterday. Bike got a little muddy. My front fork might be showing some big travel there : )
