I would be checking the fire situation first. The whole western side of NA from California to B.C. is in flames and or smoke.

Good point could still be smoked out by Oct if conditions worsen. Right now there is a large fire near Happy Camp with delays on hwy 96 other than that all other paved roads in NorCal are unaffected by fires.

Looks like hwy 96 is a little iffy right now with a large fire right up against the hwy. hopefully this will change for the better in the next few weeks. If all goes well this is what day 1 would look like.

Tomorrow is the Ride For Doug Island edition.
Purely a street ride but for a good cause.
Leaving Walnut Grove Tim Hortons at 7:45 Am for the 9:00 Am ferry.

Anybody been up to Scookumchuck Hot springs lately? It may be a good day ride for a soak and turn back or take the Harrison road down? Just chuckin it out there! It has been 20 years since I was there and it is a good spot. Then the Hurley may be a good one as well? Any biters? I can lead the way if you don't mind getting lost!

That could be interesting. My guess would be it's become commercialized,,, I could be wrong.
There was another one on the eastside of Harrison lake called Clear Creek?

    Cheers

I like Clear Creek, although same story 20 years since I have been. Weekends were usually crowded and with only a few tubs it is tough. Or a party, depending what you are into. I like the 10 k ride in but if there are a dozen 4x4s there I need not say no more. I am open, a road ride and good gravel up to Skookumchuck and gravel back (HFSR), over night, day ride. 30% chance of rain may keep most people away for us that could be a good thing. Harrison Rd all the way is an overnighter? (Bring Fuel) I have done it in a day as well, but it can be a big one, had 2 flats on 1 trip and wrecked a rim on a truck once. Hurley up and around is another big one. Can be done in a day, (I have ridden over 1600k in a day a few times, it becomes work and less on the fun) but better to over night up at Gun lake or Goldbridge. ("Filterwrench" probably has input on this from a discussion I read about a while back)
If you want to go for a ride this weekend, PM me with a suggestion or text (604-329-8911) it doesn't have to be epic, we don't have many weekends left before our bikes hibernate for the winter.
I will be going for a good ride early Saturday morning regardless.

If you're going to try hot springs, my recommendation is Sloquet. It's 8km (?) west of the old logging camp at Tippela (north end of Harrison Lake.) Skookumchuk has been taken over by the natives who now charge for it. Mind you the last time I was there, it was clean and no rowdies running around. (Before that, we had to quiet things down by letting Mr. Winchester speak. It's amazing what a blank 30-06 cartridge and a 4ft muzzle flash will do.) I've been to Clear Creek and didn't find it all that hot.

Also take difficulty ratings with a pinch of salt. I've done the West Harrison on a Wee with street tires and a Ural. But do take gas. There is one ugly section near the top of the lake, the rest is fine.

Well I,m the opposite, I just got back to BC and have a whole week to ride. My NorCal trip did not work out so will be riding local. Started my days off with a 2 day motorcycle engine rebuild course at the 5th Gear shop. Rebuilding a completely disassembled Husky 610 engine, 6 hours in first day today will see if it runs tomorrow. 20170928_222236.jpg

Interested to see how your Husky rebuild turns out!
And, does 5th Gear put on a weekend class at rebuilding engines?
I've wondered why dealers/shops don't do that, after taking a class in oil-injection pumps from Gord Allenbach's Yammy dealership way back in the 70's.
