Awesome to hear that it wasn't anything catastrophic!
I got rid of my Versys a while back... My wife, and I both had them, she decided not to ride anymore, and we sold them, and bought a DL1000 Vstrom for 2up riding (i hate 2up riding on anything).. I'm keeping the strom also.
She now has decided to ride some, and I found a decent deal on a Versys, i'll prolly ride it most of the time :)
In 40+ years of riding the Versys has been my favorite bike, knocking the RD350's, and Gen1 FZ1's off the top...
The top box has to go...i'll use it only for trips.
Well done! Glad to see the Versys on the road again. I just turned 73k myself and shooting for 100k as well.
The black headlight "ring" looks a lot better in black.
2013 650 versys owner here.
would post pic but somehow it will only let me do it from a web link, not from desktop.weird.
I'm looking to sell my 2007 Versys, but can't find any price info on KBB or NADA websites. Has about 8K miles. What is a fair starting "for sale" price?
Check your sig line.
Its not a 2007.
Though I have to say, ignore NADA.
They are nuts if they think a 2008 is worth $5725
KBB.com seems a little more reasonable
Excellent Condition $4,160 from a dealer
Been a happy Versys owner for over 2 years now. I have an 09 that I have put around 20K miles on since I got it. Mostly commuting and a few long trips. Well that it hit a bump last week, I burned up my stator, r/r, and my battery fried a cell. I don't know which went first or caused the issue but add me to the list of burnt stators.
I am currently gathering parts to put it back together. I have a new battery and I found a r/r on Amazon pretty cheap. I am going to have Custom Rewind fix the stator for me.
Question is do I trust the lower cost r/r, does anybod here have any expierence with them? I hate to put this back together only to have it burn up again. From the decscription on the Amazon page it looks pretty close to OEM.
So during this I have found out about the series style r/r that a few have installed from Compu-fire, what is the opinion on these? The theory of operation is sound and they have proven to work on the few bikes I have been able to research on. The $200 price tag is steep but if it will save me money down the road I can justify it. Just looking at my options and I don't want to have to spend this money again a year down the road.
It's must be an '08, they didn't bring the '07 into the states. I've always thought private party price was halfway between retail and wholesale (trade-in) . KBB trade-in is 2855, retail is 4160, split the difference get you at $3507.50. Add 50% the cost of farkels, subtract for any damage or repair needed, and there's a fair price, IMHO. BTW I generally ask the price that I will sell it for, so not to scare off potential buyers with a stupid high price that I know I won't get. Good luck with the sale.
Thanks - I guess I could have read my signature :huh
I have always asked the price I will sell it for too.
I never bumped it up thinking that I will get something less after negotiations.
The problem is NO ONE wants to pay your asking price, even when it is very fair.
They think you are a jerk because you don't want to budge.
Its a tough game, best wishes.
I hike the trails behind there every weekend.
Glad to see the 2014 650 comes w/ABS in US. This should increase competition between the Versys and Vstrom as riders who prefer ABS have another choice.
One of my track day sessions on a wet track (at MSR Houston) with Fastline MCS.
Stock versys Running Pilot Power 2ct at 29 psi,
Great stuff, thanks for posting,, the first vid is private though....
sorry I fixed that. Is it working now?
The ADVersys is due for some new shoes..
When first acquired in 2009, I raised the fender and mounted up Shinko 705's front and rear (rear on the front).
Got about 5K on the rear when it started to crack (typical), replaced it with the radial version and all is well. I noticed the blocks on the front are now starting to crack. Shinko doesnt offer a radial in the 130/70, so the search is on for something different.
Looking for something similar to the Shinko and thinking the TKC80 might be a bit too aggressive for street use on the front???
Considering another rear for the front and found the Kenda 761
Has anyone tried these?
I know there has been alot of new tires come on the market in the past year or two and wondering what might be the latest and greatest (in terms of 50/50 pavement/gravel travel)?
