Ah who knows. There are plenty of internet ball-bags on here, so I take it all with a grain of salt.
End of the day, I'm just after ideas for paint, not what other people think of a person they have never met, nor talked to.

Yep, it's my bike and I spend more time riding it than I do on this forum. That's why I want to get it looking 100% again.

I think the yellow wheels, would be a serious overkill. I even question red brake lines, but it's your choice of course. But you did ask for opinions ;-)

Always wanted one, so I was going to buy a 07 tuono, but figured the safe bet was the vfr. So I pulled the trigger on the VFR. I figured I bette post a pic or I might get yelled at.

I'm going to sell my BMW R1200S and replace it with a VFR.

I want gear driven cams and a single sided swingarm. I like the underseat pipes of the 6th gen and the factory bags but in the end I'm buying the bike because I need to check it off the list of bikes I've always needed to own and gear driven cams and the sound of the half V8 is what got it on the list.

So, what is the best of the various years. I'm guess I'm asking between gen 3-5 and I'm leaning towards the 98 as being the one to look for but I like the big NACA duct on the gen 4. I don't know too many things about the versions but I do know myself and if I get one it will get a front end swap to some USD radial forks and probably an exhaust. I'd like the most power I can get but what are the things to look for and what are the advantages of the various years?

    Thanks.

Great deal! Just think about what you just bought?

VTEC, Mono Swing Arm by ELF, Electronic Ignition, Fuel Injection, V4 Engine, and a lineage of bike that won the AMA Super Bike circuit for three consective years (83-85). Can you imagine what just the R&D budget alone was to develop this awesome piece of machinery?

5K? That's not a deal you got, but a steal!!!! :freaky

I'd look for a 1997 Gen4 or a 1998-2000 Gen5. The catcon showed up in 2001, adding weight, heat and decreased power. If you want USD forks, you're going to have to do a transplant if you want those and gear driven cams. If you want that, you're going to have to do it to a Gen4, because of the linked brakes on the Gen5s. That's all I got.

Good to know about 2001's - I'll avoid them. Wonder if there's a workaround to the brakes. That's not a deal breaker however. Thanks for the advice. As for engines then, no one best year?

As I recall, the 1998 and 1999s had a little more oomph than the 2000s. Also, as I recall, all of the Gen5s made more power than the VTEC models, had better driveability, and were lighter.

(No offence meant, Gen6-ers...he's looking for gear driven cam models...)
