You mean the wear on the body of the one on the right? I'm assuming you tested both of them in a pan of water on the stove to confirm operation of the new one as well as a failure for the old one.

The one on the left is open at room temperature?

Edit: or do they work the other way, lifting the bottom piece to open?

The left one is the original and it was stuck partially open when I removed it. It's been replaced now and the bike test rode well. Will need to have a nice hot day to test ride it to verify the issue is resolved but I'm pretty optimistic.

The temp gauge on my 4th gen was showing cold when I bought it. Replaced the thermostat with OEM parts, and it worked fine for a short time, and since then has behaved like the one I replaced...grrr. Might have to track down a higher quality thermostat.

My 6th gen VFR has been utterly reliable but it's always bothered me that the temp of the engine is all over the place, too cold when the weathers cold and too hot on a summers day. The whole idea of a thermostat is to help regulate the engine temp and keep it in a reasonably narrow band, so does anybody out there sell a hopefully better quality unit?

I have a Suzuki oil cooler which 5 row instead of 3 and looks like it will bolt right in with little modification to help deal with summer temps, but I don't want it running too cold over winter [ here now ]

I have a Jones to own one of those but the timing just isn't right. I know I won't be able to find one when I'm ready :bluduh

So that's basically what my bike was doing. The temp would stay freezing cold on cold days and nearly overheat on hot days. I think that a thermostat which is stuck half open (as mine was) would cause those symptoms. The temperature has been pretty average here since doing the job but I'll report back when I get a good long ride in the hot.

Are the factory side cases for 8th Gen VFR large enough for a 15" laptop in a reasonable laptop bag? I think the factory options are 29 liter side cases and 33 liter top box.
Can anyone share photos of their commuting setup?

Every day I put my Lenovo X1 Carbon in a padded sleeve case, dump that into an E-Mart bag (a little smaller than a Costco shopping back and more flexible bottom), along with another sleeve or plastic grocery bag full of papers, along with zip-locks holding the miscellaneous crap that usually reside in my many purse (LOL), and that gets stuffed into my 8th gen's left side case. I set it up so the notebook sits atop the papers, which sits atop all else. The notebook rests kind of toward a flat position in the case, not on its edge.

Those of you who have bought a gen 8, how much did you pay? OTD price please.

I'm looking at new 2015 vfr800 deluxe red. I was quoted a price of $12,5XX.XX OTD. Seems a little high to me since it is 2 years old. What would be a reasonable price?

My local dealer has a new 2014 standard for $8k, it's not a deluxe but seems like a good price to me for a new zero mile one.

If I can get a 2015 Deluxe for that price I'll do a fly 'n drive and keep one around as a spare.

Just under seven grand for a 2015 VFR? Holy crap. MSRP on a 2017 Kawasaki KLR650 is $6700.
