Civilization V dreams. Always planning my next move.
I signed up for the Beta, so hopefully I can try it out. I am running Vista on my Bootcamp Partition, so I might upgrade to Windows 8 before I try it. I'm running Win8 on my MacBook Air and it seems much smoother than Vista.
You talking about Simcity? It should work on all the latest OSes. That said, i seem to remember that the beta is good for one hour of gameplay only. Pretty sucky if you ask me. I still signed up though, hopefully we can get in to try it out.
Yeah, for SimCity. An hour, huh? That's nothing in SimCity terms. My MacPro had issues running SimCity Societies about four years ago, so I'm hoping this new one makes better use of the CPU or something. If not, no biggie. I'll have to get a new computer...
Yup until the upgrades I did last month my 400 dollar laptop (refurb bought in July) was roughly equal to my 2,500 dollar workstation I got in 2010 :eek1
Yep. That's pretty much how I judge how good a game is.
Quake 1 - used to have dreams about running down hallways in multiplayer and knowing I was being chased because I could hear the 'bomp, bomp, bomp' of grenades bouncing down the hall after me.
When I was into Fallout 3 I dreamed that stuff all the time.
Welcome to Black Mesa, Mr. Anderson.
Fuckin' Head Crabs!
Ok so I just bought a GTX 660 to replace my 8800... . I haven't bought parts other than new hard drives for about 5 years since I moved to all Macs, but this new GPU should give me another couple of years with the Mac Pro as an effective gaming machine. Not the best in the world, but not too shabby!
While you're in there, give it a good dusting.
I did that a few months ago when I replaced my Time Machine drive, but I'm sure it needs it again already!
That's a huge jump.
I've had a GTX 660 for a week....upgrade from a HD 5750......it's not bad.
Yeah I had about seven PCs in my house for various things from 2000 to 2008. I used to buy RAM, video cards, motherboards, and all sorts of stuff every few months, to upgrade one or the other computer. I used to overclock, mod my cases and started putting together a watercooling rig. I remember using a graphite pencil to connect some jumpers on an AMD CPU back in 2000 to overclock it a couple of hundred MHz. Those were the days!
I moved to a Mac Pro and a MacBook Air as my only two computers (with an Apple TV in the living room) and the only thing I've upgraded since January 2008 was to put a SSD in my Air and to upgrade HDDs every so often in the Mac Pro. I feel like I'm trying to relive the glory days of my PC building by buying this video card.
Well, I have been able to play the Simcity Beta some this morning, and unless they change something with the graphics in the next two weeks my card will be fine. I turned everything up to "ultra" in the graphics settings and the game played fie to me. That is great news for me, this is pretty much the only game I will be playing on PC, so I do not really want to upgrade my video card right now.
Oh, the game... Yeah, its fun! Looks like they took a lot of the good from the older ones, and left out a lot of the tedious. There is a lot of new stuff as well, but since it is a beta a lot is locked out, non playable. Either way, from the 30 minutes I have played so far I know I will swing buy Wal-Mart to pick it up on March 5.
I haven't played a SimCity since SimCity Societies back in 2008, so I may get a copy of SimCity 4 or something to tide me over until March. I didn't get an email for the beta, so apparently I'm not the person they're looking for.
I've got you beat, Sim City 2000
Make water on hills, put hydro plant on that single block of water
Now that I have a new GPU, I need to find some games to tax my system. I haven't played many games on my computer in the past few years. Most of my gaming is on my XBox or iPad. A couple of months ago I went through a few weeks' phase of playing Rise of Nations, which I used to spend hours on about ten years ago. I have Civ 4, so maybe I should try Civ 5.
