As MX-great Bob Hannah was quoted after trying out an old Triumph scrambler, "It jumps great...it just doesn't land very good"! :eek1

My very limited experience with jumping on an Enfield taught me the same thing. I wouldn't really call it 'landing', crashing covers the experience better.

Taken at a race meeting at Oulton Park in England, about ten years ago, before I got a digital camera anyway, sorry for the poor quality..

^Awesome shots! The front tire wipers are interesting.

I bet the rear travel is 2-3 inches, not much more up front. I can only imagine the landing once airborn. :D

    Cool photos! :clap

There is a whole lot of stuff behind the engine and below the seat (especially along the frame just in front of the rear suspension). I can't make out what it is, does anyone know?

Those are canvas covers to keep water from the magneto and air intakes.

The device with the thumb valve on top has a hose turning down with what looks like may be a tire valve attachment on the end. Could it be a pump or compressed air? I think I see tire tools strapped to it. Where's the right side foot peg?

Those wipers were invented when the lanes of rural Britain were littered with horseshoe nails.
And those are great photos, thanks for putting them up here.

From Jeff Smith's Facebook photo albums. Some great pics there.
Good to see he still knows where the throttle is too!

Just forward of the kickstart level with front of gearbox, and just below the shifter.
Looks like a tire pump and tools strapped to the frame rail.

    Great pics!
Interesting that Ariel is running road-based VH models (with mods) rather then their all-alloy motor off-road/competition machines? Just being released then perhaps.

    The HS/HT didn't come out until 56.

The bikes in the photograph must have been the first swinging arm/alloy head machines. Those look like alloy barrels as well.

To my highly untrained eye I would say the cylinders are much darker then the heads in that pic...indicating they are probably black-painted cast iron.
