Now I gots to know
Lets ride! the text said and another one and then another one it is 50 deg in Feburary and the track was groomed so why not?
My 11 yz 125 is getting freshened up for the coming season with new piston and rings as well as fresh oil in the suspension so I opted for the 89 even though it was not totally done in my mind.
Peer pressure got to me (it's not that hard to talk me into going riding) and I loaded the bike up, I went through a mental checklist that everything was done and seemed it was.
The bike started right up and felt fine although the clutch was slipping a bit but I pulled over and adjusted the cable and seemed alright so I picked up the pace and started to do all the jumps and the bike started to feel slugish and stalled in a corner, I jump started it and took off again and headed down the long straight that has a double, double, triple, triple of which I made all of them except that last triple....motor locked up!!! faaaaak!
I never put anything in the radiator, no water, no antifreeze, NOTHING! I didn't crash it but the motor was locked up. It's free now but I have to pull the head to see what happened in there and probably will change out the clutch as well.
I'm an idiot....
Meh... Ain't that big o deal.
I know it's not a big deal just frustrating to put all that time and effort into a project like this and have it go sour in the first 10 min. I'll fixit...
I think we all have had our dumb ass moments. I know I have anyway. I bet you never forget to check the coolant again. Lol
I was just reading about a guy on ktm talk who did that. to prevent senior moments ill do stuff like take the cap off the radiator and leave it off untill I fill it up just so i wont forget. Ill tape it to teh seat or handlebar or somewheer I know I will see it when I go to start the bike
When I took the bike apart I made a list of everything to be done, what parts to order, what need to be polished and what needs to be painted. I put bolts from every section in there own baggies and label them and put them in order so when I assemble the bike I have each bag in order of assembly as well as the parts they go to in stacks in order of dis- assemble so they are in order of assemble (I know I have issues but it works when you take a bike apart and put it back together 2 months later)(not my first rodeo) but I didn't write down put Antifreeze or GAS for that matter on my list. Maybe I'm getting old? Naaaa it's not my fault my friends made me ride...thats it ...not my fault.
Wasn't to bad, piston is scored and needs to be replaced,
Cylinder got a bit messed up too,
You can see the head gasket got hot,
But the head is fine,
Just a few crispy parts no big deal. Just a few more dollars and it will be good as new. Lol
Of course any real vintage enthusiast hordes parts like the Mrs hordes girl scout cookies...
Spare heads and barrels in stock! One is ported and polished.
Even found some new clutch discs at the bottom of a girl scout cookie box?
Power valve covers, I'll use the best one.
So have to order a piston and gasket kit and we'll be back on track.
Yep...a few more dollars...
Put a straightedge on that head and make sure it didnt warp
