Just proving the point that getting the shafts is expensive.

Was hoping that if he knew which parts were blown and if he could save a gear or 2 or even the main shaft he could save a few hundred but if in fact everything was toast he was quoted a good price

With gaskets and a fresh piston it was about $1500 and with my "racers" discount it was just over a grand, add tax and it was $1100 something. Some of the parts are backordered till middle of June.
I have it at my motor guy who I do alot of business with and is very fair with his pricing. But I do appreciate the offer Kenny!
I have to see what I can part it out for? if the bike is worth 35-3900 running can I just part it and get $2000? I don't know or do I put the 13-1500 into it and keep it or sell it and be flush...new bike is about $6000???

To tell the truth this kinda pisses me off at KTM again, Had a SX200 that basically did the same thing a few years back and it turns out the output shaft is the same part # for the last 13 years and it's on back order till middle of June. Had a KTM 144 that exploded on me (almost all 144's did) and I had a brand new SXF250 that was delivered to me with no internals in one of the forks? KTM did make good on that one after I made a stink but this is my 6th KTM in about 7 years and have had 3 major faults with them. I love the KTM's but in between I keep buying Hondas and never seem to have a problem with them, they don"t have the "personality" of the KTM's but that personality is getting expensive! I raced that 1980 for 3 years on the same clutch and transmission and it's 30 years old, the 89 CR 125 I just got seem solid as can be and it's 22 years old . my 2 year old KTM brakes a shaft and takes everything with it.....

Sounds like he takes care of you. The way I would look at it is its gonna cost you 1500 but you will have a brand new engine / transmission. is the additional $4500 for new worth the new suspension (that your going to have to have reset back to your liking) and frame/ geometry improvements if any worth that much. Too be honest I dont know if they have even changed anything bewteen years its just how I would break it down

My son has one(99) and one of the guys I ride with has one that he made into a 167 which is a great bike wich actually has over 120 hrs on it with no problems at all. The YZ is a great bike.
My brother has a 06 RM 125 punched out to a 134 that I might borrow and try, I raced a 06 CR125 that I borowed for second day at Evansville and I liked that as well.
There is nothing like the hit of that KTM though, very rough suspension but I kinda like it that way.
Yz 125's can be had for a bargain, 07-08's for $2500 or less

I posted my dilema at KTMtalk and got an offer of a whole motor for a grand which is probably what I should do but the 200 motor will fit right in that frame so am investigating that as well...this internet thing is amazing?

I am buying the 150 motor in Cali for $1070 shipped, I should be able to part my motor out for at least $500 so it might not be that bad.... we'll see:cry

I remember getting chased by the guy that owned the apple orchard for picking a "snack" for the ride home. :lol3.......And wood chips......lots of woodchips..:clap. My last ever race was there. Ending with a torn AC joint after a first turn over the bars incident. That was two days before the world trade center attack. My arm was in a sling while my fellow firefighters were heading down to help. Sucked. I raced thjis bike at Claverack back in the day. Bought it back from the guy I sold it to in 2001 and restored it. Appologies to those (Flug) that have seen this pic. Before and after. Note the discolored plastic float bowl on the Lectron flat slide carb before [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
