Hey Diek, I think you, as a classical musician, could find this interesting. Just for fun though

    <IFRAME height=360 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OdsrMudbBV0?feature=player_detailpage" frameBorder=0 width=640 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

    Other way to understand music.

PS: love your report, please keep it coming. Yesterday I was searching for a 990 ADV as a possible substitute for my GS.

There is a Stradivari viola coming up for auction at Sotheby's. Here is the link from the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/video/theate...-jonatha-brooke.html?playlistId=1194811622313
There is a video of a guy playing a Bach suite on it. The starting bid is listed as - Sit Down - $45M!!! I guess I have to stop telling viola jokes. Personally, I think it would sound a lot better on top of a mountaqin in Colorado.

You are always such a tease! Sorry I missed you when you were in town, but I'm getting close to planning my summer mountain riding, so perhaps then.

viola-tor is alive and well! We played violas in the same orchestra at a concert awhile back. (He is a professional, and I am not, so it was a real treat). Says he is very busy !

I was lucky to have a viola-tor sighting a few weeks ago and see a selfie of him and his big orange bike up in the mountains on a recent warm day. I can verify that he is very busy these days. :D

Hi Everyone reading this thread :wave

I wanted to take a moment and post to this thread as I know Diek has been super busy.

A few years ago Diek and ADV'ers Davestr, Mommer, Gnarly Karle, Dirty Santana and myself rode offroad from Colorado to Montana together. During that ride, Diek pulled his viola out every night around the campfire and left us speechless with his talent (even if we did request "Eye of the Tiger" every night :rofl )

Since then, Diek (among other things) has been working on making a movie.
He has had his head burried in his laptop with this project and just today he released the trailer for that movie.

Here is the trailer (and you can see Diek and his Viola in the opening):

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e2mOVWgmfO0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I would like to invite everyone to help spread the word.

Have you ever heard such an amazing soundtrack in a "no budget" film trailer?

Please share this with your friends and family.
Post it to your facebook page.

Diek is doing all of this with his personal laptop and his personal camera (the one that took most of the pictures in this thread in fact!).

Lets help spread the word so we can all someday say "I know Diek before he was famous" :photog

    :freaky

    cheers,
    Edward

p.s. I, for one, can't wait to see the movie! :lurk

Awesome. Shared it on facebook and added my favorite photo of him since all my facebook friends are motorcyclist or at least know me as a motorcyclist.

Wishing Diek huge success with this project. :clap

Awesome music in that video, Diek! I love it. Can't wait until we can finally see the whole movie you've been working so hard on.

Here's one of my favorite photos of my buddy.

I spent the first half of my life in the PNW and then 10 years in Summit county Colorado. I completely sympathized with your 'meh' attitude about the ocean. I even stated to friends if I never saw the ocean again, I'd never miss it.

Then I moved to San Diego and bought a surfboard out of boredom. Being in it, fighting the surge, the surf, dancing as close to disaster as possible without failing, getting shoved to the bottom and held there until she decides to let you go, the dolphins that seem to communicate with you, etc etc. I can't imagine not living near her now. But it took immersion and the physical exhaustion of it to hook me.

And of course amazing MC roads and daily riding weather are fantastic. You can keep Florida though. No disrespect intended, I just abhor humidity, and the flatness is a deal breaker for a guy living most of life in the mountains.

I relate to your connection to the Viola with your ride. I play the Ukulele and 'dare' to strap it on the back occasionally. I need a SOLID hardcase though. It's a special instrument to me made by Taylors top Luthier and I'd hate to see it get rain soaked, or crunched. You are well aware of the hassles of a wood stringed instrument in rapidly changing outside temps.

I should do a search for CF Uke's. I've never heard of one being made but it would be worth a strong consideration since Uke's and motorbikes will be a part of the rest of my life. :evil:D

Cheers to you for being brave enough to buck the system and create your own unique life!!

    Hey Diek,

I just wanted to say that I've read your entire report from page 1 post 1 until the end. That's 56 pages of true adventure that few can dream of emulating and for you to share so much of it with us is a privilege. Clearly you're busy with some things at the moment and as I'm banging away at my own little flicker show project I understand completely how involving it can be. I watched the trailer and I like what I see. As I expected the music was epic and gave me new appreciation for the right pair of hands and the right viola.

When you find the time and can spare it I and many others are waiting for the next step in your journey. It may have been a year plus since we heard from you but we're still here waiting Be safe and ride hard.

    Cheers.
