    Hi
I live in Eastern Ontario in Canada and am contemplating a trip in March to go dirt bike/trail riding in Virginia, or possibly other states a bit further south that wont have snow in March in order to insert some riding sanity into the Canadian winter! I'm looking for suggestions for resources to find possible locations. I'm looking For off road riding areas that are Ok for dirt bikes. Any help, links, suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rob

I don't know that I would plan a vacation in March to Virigina, as weather is still pretty dicey. Our normal haunt is George Washington National Forest, but has a bit of elevation and I wouldn't rule out snow/freezing rain.

I've had good luck (weather wise) in North Carolina for March.

Yep, March is up in the air for weather, some of our record snows have been in March. Western North Carolina is usually about the same as Virginia weather. April or even beginning of May would be better.

March can be really nasty in VA. "In like a lion , out like a lamb" and all that. Lots of ice still on trails up here in the mountians and chance freak ice/snow storms. We do not handle snow as well as you guys. Hospitality is warm and sunny though.

We sometimes have snow way down here in N. GA and N. AL in march so you'll be taking your chances further north.

But then again, riding in the snow can be fun:evil This pic was taken in early March in the N. GA MTNS:

Please let us know when you get dowm in the Elkton/Harrisonburg area. We might be around to provide Tent/couch space .

Nice trails close by and Skyline Drive is minutes away. Ride happy!

I was thinking about taking a vacation down to VA... I've already been through on the Skyline Dr (beautiful).

How much legal riding is there in VA state parks/forests. The VA Parks & Rec page has links that are no longer in existence. Essentially all I got from it was George Wash & Jefferson National Forests, which are both federal lands.

Specifically, I was planning on camping down near Virginia beach. Any tips, thanks!

First landing state park in va beach has good camping and the beach is right there. Still some good riding up in the George Washington. Look in the ride reports for some cool spots. There are some roads listed in maps on my sig line.
