Another 1290 SA guy here ! Just got back from riding up in the Ozarks.
Hello all, new trail rider here, just picked up a 12 DRZ400S.... getting all the gear i need to ride trails and will be ready shortly.. Hope to hear about some good riding trails around Austin.. I'm up in Georgetown and haven't found a thing around here..
If you want real trails close check this thread. http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87097
Almost everything in Williams County has been paved !
Mom came from White Settlement to take me to my doc appt. and we made it back to her driveway, as she had forgot her phone, when I got a call, that due to an emergency, they would have to reschedule my appt until the 6th. This definitely delays being released to return to work.
Anyone want to transport a bike from AF1 Racing in Austin to Atlanta? I'm thinking of buying a Moto Guzzi V7 from AF1 and would need it shipped. I'd rather pay a fellow inmate than u-ship. Their estimate is $411. Even getting it to Birmingham, Chattanooga, or anywhere close would be a big help.
PM me if you're interested or know someone who might be able to help. Thanks!
I've been just wiped out all summer and now into the fall. Haven't gotten out nearly as much as usual. Even missed my first RTB. But looking at this thread, it looks like I'm not the only one. I'm headed for Lafayette, LA for the Swamp Scooter rally next week, so at least I can say I did something other than hang around the house.
I'm sure you've looked into the insurance coverage issue for this.
Yes, and I went ahead with uship. It should be here tomorrow!
AF1 Racing was great to deal with, BTW.
While the people are nice what a otherwise awful place
A few years ago I pulled up at Lone Star BMW on der WasserNoggin and see a guy loading farkles into a pannier. “Nice bike!”, I say. “Yeh. Thanks! The original owner really set it up great for long rides”, he says. “Well, thank you”, I said, and a friendship began. Turns out he saw “Long Way Around” and bought my old tri-black to ride to Tierra del Fuego. After all, he keeps a little Honda 150 at his friend’s place in Costa Rica to ride around on. And a bike is a bike, right??
His book recently became available on Amazon. Paperback or Kindle. It’s a fun read. If you’ve ever thought about riding Down South, or especially if you’d NEVER ride there, give the book a read. It’s enlightening.
He bought the U-boat?
Yup. I threw in the paddle for free.
U-Boat or new boat, that would not be my first choice to "leave tomorrow." But good on him for making the dream real!
Over dinner in Oaxaca, the night before he continued south solo, Dirk asked me if I thought he was getting in over
his head. Pretty easy answer for most any green rider taking on what he did. With Dirk, however, he just seemed
to embody the intangible qualities that can make all the difference out there. So I told him "wellllll, you gotta whole
lotta bike there so just take it easy, day at a time, and don't let your schedule pressure you to make bad decisions."
Then I told him there was no shame in returning with me to Texas to build more riding experience.
He did just fine.
Got released for lite duty work today. My boss has mentioned driving a truck or my van and doing deliveries. I'm trying to do this right. Mostly.

Not sure where to put this to get visibility to impacted riders but need support to help keep our park from being closed to motorcycle riding.
Gonna have a campout and Brad is teaching the MSF Dirt class at my place November17-19....I have a thread on TWT here:
FINALLY!!! Something I can attend. Count me in for camping only...I prefer to learn the hard way.
Yes sir ! ! ! I have to take my 1290 to the shop Saturday morning for it's valves check and general check up. Then I'll meet ya'll there on my 950SE.
