Damn, the Fun Tax just keeps on moving up. :puke1 I expect to see more and more of this sort of thing as local governments are desperate to find more money.

Bah. That's nothing.
In VA two years ago, they added a $1,350 dollar surcharge to every ticket 15 over (20 over on non-highways).

About a year later, the governer repealed it and paid back all the money.

Guess who introduced that bill?
A lawyer who specilized in getting people out of tickets.

Honestly, I hope it slows people down. The speeding has gotten way out of hand around here. It's gotten to the point that if your doing 10 over, you're a speedbump.

I'd feel a lot better about it if people were serious about thier driving, but so many of them pay no attention and fly down the road. I was nearly hit by some nitwit today who was playing with his dog in his lap. Naturally, he was in a 4 ton pickup that 4 feet off the ground, so he wouldn't have noticed. He was doing at least 70 in a 45.

If speeding has gotten out of hand, the limits need to be changed.

DOT USED to use the 85th percentile rule.

The 85th percentile speed is considered by most agencies nationally to be the appropriate speed limit. It recognizes that most drivers voluntarily adjust their speed to the total roadway/roadside environment (width, alignment, surface condition, roadside development, pedestrian activity, weather, light conditions, etc
