After a nice day of dirty riding in KS, I decided to wash away all my off-road cred. Today, when I filled up, much to my surprise, I found about 2-3 tablespoons of water in the cavity around the tank spout of the left tank. Is this normal and what happened to the water on the right side? Should I not be hosing around the gas caps? Sheesh!

there is a draining hole, connected to a hose, routed at the inside of the tank. This should be pinched. You need to rearrange it.

Yep, pinched drain hose. Learned this in huge thunderstorms in Colorado last year....

    Thank you, mr. dealer.

On my 03 model they hadn't drilled the holes in the tank...so the water just sat there:eek1. Made it interesting when you had to fuel up on a rainy day. Might be worth pulling the caps to have a look if she's an early model.

Ah yes this has happened to mine too .
To make matters worst I found the actual caps don't seal that well allowing that water to go into the tanks once it fills over the lip inside .
I tape over my caps just as a precaution when washing it now .
Yes pinched hose or blocked drain hole .

That was it...finally got around to changing my oil; I was waiting for my cj oil drain hose and motivation. I guess I jerked on the hose too much the last time I changed the oil and it wadded up when I put the tank back. It's amazing how much easier to work on it with the top bolt in place;). But even so, what a PITA to do an oil change; at least it'll be easier the next go round with the drain hose.
    Thanks for the advice.
