Sept 1, 2013 I packed up and left Helena for Stemple Pass and Rte 279. Took Stemple Pass Rd to the top. I went out Page Gulch and the Continental Divide in Helena National Forest. Here's a short clip of the divide road. The brush piles are where they had been cutting fire breaks. [/IMG] Great time. Finally turned around and went back to Stemple Pass to find another lost couple of guys with a map. I found out from what I could tell from their map that I had turned back just short of where I thought I would come out on 279. They were partridge hunting and trying to get to Lincoln. I told them I had ridden out the road they were considering for an hour and a half and not come to anything at all. So we decided it was the other road that headed in a generally north direction. Having figured out which was the road to Lincoln I went there for lunch. Afterwards I headed up Rt 200 to Rt 279 ( Flesher Pass Rd) and back to Helena. Started East on Rte 12 at 4:00. Ended day at White Sulpher Springs. They were having their annual Labor Day Rodeo. The town was hopping and the motels were full. I camped at a motel that advertised showers but said they had rented the room they usually used for campers so no luck on getting clean but I said I could do without a shower. I pitched the tent and headed up to the rodeo. After the rodeo I returned to the hotel to find a couple on a GS Adventure inquiring about camping. They had gotten to the "no showers" part and asked the question that had not occurred to me. "Where is the bathroom and water?" The answer was walk down the road 1/3 of a mile and use the bathroom in the 24 hour casino. OK. They left. I had already pitched my tent. I stayed. There was a street dance after dark. I went down, had a beer, and enjoyed the entertainment. Once the band got their sound sorted they were quite good (or maybe it was more beer). Insufficient Funds from Helena. They played a lot of CCR , rockabilly, country soft rock. Fun little town- at least they put on a good show for Labor Day.
