I lived there into my 20s and never saw any of that stuff in western KS. I was always on I-70 in hurry to get to Colorado or Wyoming. Another cool area of KS is the southeast corner. Hilly and wooded. -al

If you look at satellite pics of western KS, you can see that badlands country extends from Cedar Bluff Res all the way west to hwy 25. It's all over the place. I just took one path thru it. -al

Thanks Al. Good job giving us a feel of what the Plains States offer. I enjoy the Sandhills too. I was out there a few weeks ago.... on my Strom!

Looking at google maps now, I see that north of Carver road/Steverson Lk a few miles there is a good road all the way to Twomile. The sandy 2-track joins it east of Evy Lk. I should have gotten on that road. But Eli road was a good one.

I think I can see the house where I turned around on sat view and the road past there looks better than it did in person. I didn't investigate it closely though so maybe I was fooled. I just took the woman's advice. She didn't seem to be trying to get rid of me, she just said it wasn't very good. I was on packed sand already and she said it got worse. I would be all over those roads on my 250 if I lived closer. Al

Very good pics. I have only ridden in SE Kansas, near the OK,AR, and MO boarders. I didn't know KS was do different in the Western parts..
Thanks for the report.[IMG]

Really enjoyed the photos and report. Looks like it was a fantastic trip. The contrast of those geologic formations with an otherwise featureless expanse of prairie is stunning! Great stuff Al!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Thanks for the RR and great photos, Al. I'm on the left coast. I've been as far as the Front Range and western Colorado, but really never in the plains. You've motivated me to go there and check them out....my visits to the Midwest are not complete...

PM me prior to your trip. If you make it close to us, we'll get a group together for a meal or better.

That goes for all travelers to Nebraska. :D

Thanks for writing this Ride Report. Looks like some mighty fine roads. I've been through the plains a couple of times, but mostly on the paved two-laners. The V-Strom is perfect for the kind of ride you reported.
