It was pushing 50 degrees today so I got out for 3 hours or so. Farmland county roads down through Amish country.
It's been a good balance of winter weather this year allowing for some nice rides, Love the shot with the 2 equine powered rig sharing the road with the Wing.
Yeah, cool pic. The Wing and the Buggy!
I've thoroughly enjoyed all the pictures of the historical signs. Sometimes I feel silly actually stopping to read those things but they really are fascinating. Beautiful rides you've taken, keep up the good work.
Thanks for checking in y'all.
More to come,
real soon I hope.
On the road before first light.
Stopped to grab a tag in the Farnsy Ohio Tag-a-rama. I goofed up and posted up the same pic as next tag.
White's Mill in Athens,OH
Snow drifts and icy conditions
Base camp for a couple nights. Had the whole campground to myself.
Spring Houses @ 39 & 220 couple miles east of campground in Warm Springs,VA. There is also a good safe pull off with a little kiosk stocked with tourist pamphlets. Good cell coverage there so I checked in with headquarters.
Shortcut 606 over the mountain to Clifton Forge,VA. My VA atlas & Google maps shows a ridge top road 703 running parallel to 220. Great views worth the side trip. One of my previous adventures I found the road closed dead ended at Ingall's Field Airport. I think a conservatory turned it into hiking paths if I remember correctly.
220 south to Eagle Rock, 43 through Buchanan up to the BRP.
Came off the Parkway down through Irish Valley, great gravel and unmarked paved 3 digit routes over to Lexington VA. Picked up 39 north of Lex. Nice road.
On the way back to camp.
I myself NEVER lie, but at times I've been known to be "Perceptionelly Challenged"
I rode 39 west through WV and 16 north to US50. Fun twisty roads. I stopped at Highland Scenic Highway again and there was still not much snow melted off. I've been told there are permafrost conditions there as well as Spruce Knob and Dolly Sods areas. This is another fuzzy pic from behind the visitors center at 150 HSH and 39.
I was going to stay on 16 and cross the mighty Ohio River, my ADVrider friends tell me there is a ferry boat at Fly,OH. After checking the Farnsy Tagarama I decided to take 50 back across to Athens and 33 to the Hocking Hills Area for the new tag. Some cool little roads back up in there.
Made it home before dark just shy of 1200 miles 3 days riding.
My camera lens on my phone seems to have deteriorated so sorry for the 70's Penthouse filter exposures. I spent more time riding and less time fiddling with the camera settings. I may have to invest in a real camera.
I always thought there was something really cool about riding when there is still snow on the ground......even more so when it's on the road:eek1
O, it was cool all right !
Time for some maintenance.
New chain & sprockets, tire and rear brakes.
High Tech bead breaker.
Poppa's little helper.
High Tech balancer.
Still had time to run for the NE OH Tag. Got it and set the new tag.
Weather forecast looked good so South to the mountains I go. On the road by 7am.
800 to the big river crossed the bridge @ St Marys WV and headed down 16 all the way to 39. Treacherous curvy roads and distractions galore to set off ADHD. 39 East of Richwood has the Highlands Scenic Highway, I was just up there on 150 in April and got snowed out. Weather is a little more agreeable this trip.
If you continue East on 39 you'll come across Goshen Pass. Nice river views.
Sherando Lake Campground near the start of the BRP.
Great day of riding. 508 miles no Interstate other than a quick 20 mile jaunt across 64/81 from Lexington to Waynesboro,VA.
