There's been an extraordinary amount of rain up there over the past several months.
Rain in swampy area=lots of flooded trail.
Lots of flooded trail=lots of folks riding around flooded trail sections.
Lots of folks riding around flooded trail sections=upset Forest Service.
Upset US Forest Service="Something needs to be done to stop the off-trail riding".
Something needs to be done=stopping the off-trail riding via trail closures.

The Forest Service has worked with us (CORRA) better than at anytime in recent history to find ways to keep the trails open more.
The current staff has even gone to the extreme of buying a mud-hog (pump) to use for pumping water out of low spots that remain after most of the trail dries out.
Does it work? Not too well.
But they are willing to try.
Don't like the trail closures? Pray for drier weather.
Don't like the way it's being maintained? Volunteer to help.
Don't want to volunteer to help? Then please quit your bitchin'.:D

Yea, I get tired of hearing a lot more bitchin' than I hear "how can I help"!

    Ok, I'm done now.

Been there, done that, proposed logical common sense solutions, only to be ignored or have red herrings thrown up over the course of decades of work out there.

Wished you luck before, still do.

Oh for the good old days, when a trail problem was fixed or routed around without a NEPA study and an act of Congress...

Leaving Claires Service Station (non-ethanol plus) on Folly Road, James Island at 8am Saturday. Cruising the battery, crossing the big bridge to MP, left on HWY 41 and right on Halfway Creek to ride the WAMBAW cycle trail starting the North Loop around 9:45 or 10am. Will probably ride some FS roads after and likely stop at Twin Ponds to spend a few rounds before a late lunch at SEEWEE Restaurant. I hope some of you true dual-sporters can join for some or all. I'll be on my GRN-KLR 650

If you do ride the Wabaw, it's $5 and PLEASE ride directly through any water that blocks the trail, DO NOT GO AROUND, Off trail riding is the biggest ACTUAL reason for trail closure.

Going to be exploring the Francis Marion area most likely Saturday morning. I would give vectors but I have no idea where I'm going - new to SC. I'll be on a dark grey 990, will be looking for dirt and sand (I would be headed to Wambaw but it looks like it's still closed).

Probably heading out to Wambaw Friday or Saturday. Will be on the 990 so happy to ride with any size bike.

I'm looking for recommendations in the Charleston area for a place to get a valve adjustment on my KLR. Thanks.

I bought an XT250 from HKYO in Orangeburg and they delivered it to Mt P, then for a recall and the first service they picked it up from my house and brought it back. One of the owners (Dave) either lives down here or at least is down here regularly with truck and trailer. I don't have much experience with local service departments, so I'm sticking with HKYO until I hear of any local recommendations.

I think I'll gear up and ride the XT now. Maybe hit the Francis Marion dirt roads tomorrow? Anyone else going to be out there?

Thanks for your input. After three separate conversations with two different service counter people at Velocity Powersports I wasn't left with sufficient confidence to trust them with my bikes.

I've done valve adjustments on Ducati, Triumph, and many of the UJM brands from inline 4 to thumpers... Fair prices as it's a hobby, not a bizness. Drop me a text on the board if you are interested. Chadd

Hoping to take advantage of the nice weather Saturday morning. It sounds like Wambaw is closed for now - if they open by then, I'll be there. Otherwise I'd be happy to explore farther afield. PM if you're interested in joining.

I missed that, kinda surprising based on all the rain we're getting right now.

I'll be coming up to ride Wambaw and/or area Saturday 1/30/2016 I plan to be at SeeWee Outpost gas station around 10 am. I'll be on my baby bike ('94 DR350S) but it'll still do 70+ so I shouldn't be too slow for you. South loop is open and there are plenty of forest service roads up that way too. If a different time or place works better let me know. I'll be riding up from James Island. MY cell is 843-609-5380
