The storm pushes me all the way back to Kimball. I stayed ahead of it by like one minute. It's now late afternoon.

Kimball is without lightening so I explore a bit.

The town is dying a slow death. Walmart wanted to build its district HQ here but the people voted it down. It got built over in the next town. You see this often here... the young 'uns leave due to lack of jobs, and the town dies a long slow death. It's sad. I bet this used to be a vibrant town 50 years ago.

Looks like the same technology as my KLR650 suspension.

The motels are all long gone and boarded up. It's 5 pm by now. Only place to stay is some hotel right on the Interstate (which I crossed over). I get dinged for a $150 room. Not very happy with the outcome. No camping around here. All private land.

In retrospect, I should have found Jack, and pitched a tent in his back yard.

Yes, an overloaded KLR650 will indeed do 85.9 mph, WFO throttle, and thoughts of getting hit by lightening in your head.

In front of the hotel I meet an older couple on a BMW. Forget where they are from. Think they were Yanks. As the guy is checking in, his wife tells me stories about all his crashes. Last one, he fell asleep riding. :fpalm

Their riding buddy is 84 years old! I hope I can do that at 84!!

As I checked in that night, I didn't think anything of wearing my Klim knack-pack, it's a camel back/back pack thing. The hotel clerk is maybe from India or Pakistan, brown skin and wearing a white robe. He gives me a very nervous giggle, and is pointing at my camel back. :scratch

In broken English, he asks me "Is it a bomb??"

    :imaposer

I take a drink of water, and show him it's a camel back, and he looks much relieved. I shouldn't laugh... it was probably a common thing in his home country. Easy to forget just how fucked up half the world is.

It's so windy from the storm, when I go back out I lose an ear plug into my skid plate. Another sign? :hmmmmm

$150 Interstate hotel. The toilet ran all night. The hot and cold shower faucets were reversed. Hot on the right. There's a sign that says "Reuse towels to save energy". For $150 I am going to use them to polish my head pipe, then piss on them. :twitch

I call my kids. The daughter is happy to talk to me. The boy refuses to even say "hi". I know he is mad at me for leaving him behind.

You have to understand something. I do what I do, my work, so I can be home. My kids have NEVER once been to a babysitter or daycare. I feed them 3 meals a day. The boy refuses to sleep in his toddler bed, and sleeps with me, for several years. He sits next to me, wherever we go. Holds my hand, wherever we walk. We literally eat, sleep, and shower together. He comes to the shop with me for a good part of the day even. His world revolves around me. Both of them, but my boy is especially close to me. My girl is a lot more independent.

Of course it bothers me, that he refuses to talk to me.

About 15 minutes after leaving Kimball Nebraska I can see the Rocky Mountains! This isn't my first time, but it's always exciting!

I stopped for a picture and a bee kept buzzing me. Another sign? Bugs?

Oh well. Made it to Colorado. Again. :D This time the sky looks better!

The road looks nice! This won't continue very long. Highway 71 South has HUGE potholes. Worse that riding off road. Worst is about 10 miles north of Highway 14. It's BAD. Highway 14 is very busy with industrial truck traffic. Not much fun. Time to get lost.

At 10:30 am I stop in Ault Colorado for a stretch. It's a nice town! I find something ironic... Nebraska and Colorado used to be one territory. When Colorado was found to be full of gold, Nebraska insisted on splitting off at once, not wanting the gold, as it would lead to prostitution, drunkenness, and all sorts of disorder. Nebraska is the "clean" state. Official motto, "The Good Life". Read that however you want. The churches in Nebraska were very powerful at that time, too. Still are.

The small towns in Colorado are thriving, and vibrant. The small towns in Nebraska are dying, and stricken with poverty. Some of the poorest counties in the mid west are in the sand hills. No jobs there unless you were born into ranching and own a lot of land and cattle.

Colorado is a lot more progressive than Nebraska, and now a lot more prosperous. Backwards thinking back then, and continues to this day. Nebraska, wake the fuck up. Good life my ass. Dying a slow death. We can't keep our young people here. There's a lot better places to go.

I stop for lunch in Fort Collins Colorado. The city park is very peaceful, and very clean. The air is crisp and fresh, coming through the mountains, of which I am right next to. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping. I prepare my lunch, and drink extra fluids. I live at 1200 feet above sea level, and now am at 5 to 6 thousand feet up. I feel it a bit, and know to drink extra water.

So relaxing. Now this is nice.

I forget all about the everyday stresses, the worries, the chores, the work, even the kids. My ME time.

As I am taking the last picture, I hear a diesel truck pull up. Guy hits the porta pot. No worries, right? RIGHT?? He just is taking a leak.

Nooooooo.... story of my life. It's the shit pump truck, and the shitter is full. He gets out the hose, and I begin to smell the fragrant breeze of yesterday's Fort Collins Taco Bell migrate through the mountain air. Mmmmm. :puke1

At least he leaves the diesel idle the whole time. Probably has to. Proly drives the shit pump. Knocka-knock-knock-knock. And I thought the KLR was Klunky.

The KLR 650.... I have never named a bike before. But is clunks when I put it in gear. It clunks when I lug it. It clunks when it bottoms out (about every 30 seconds). Kawasaki + clunky = Klunky.

I am wearing Klim and look like a space man. So officially it's "The Adventures Of Klunky And The Spaceman".

Remember... I am in Colorado. They do have stores that sell this stress medicine. This herbal stuff. "Indian tobacco" is what my grandpa called it (no offense intended towards native Americans). Hey... this shit is legal here! And when in Rome... :bmwrider

I think my stress is even gone. :evil

Anyways, lunch. Shit just got real.

But noooooo. The fucking 40 horse industrial lawn mower took care of that, now we have a loud ass lawn mower, a noisy diesel engine idling, plus the wonderful sound of shit being sucked up through a tube.

Yeah shit just got real. This herbal remedy can't quite cover this up. Fuck.
