Finally got the bike on the Superferry to go take a look at Maui.

    Departing Honolulu Harbor:

Almost bought a shirt for DAM:

NW Maui, there’s a road there:

I started off on the road to Hana, Maui’s NE end, found many locked gates that put a damper on exploring:

The weather has been pretty dry lately, less waterfalls, but I did find some interesting things to look at:

The mostly one lane Hana Rd. 50+ miles of it. Full of people looking around, so, no café’ racing:

I did find this little road; it went for about 8 miles until I ran into another locked gate:

I ended up staying the night at the Oheo Gulch (7 Sacred Pools) Campground:

I read that the Superferry will begin service to the Big Island in December. That'll open up a whole new option.

Drove the Road to Hana in a Jeep all the way to the closure last year and man what a lovely place! We talked about how nice it'd be to explore the area on two wheels. Especially the Big Island. Must be dreamy to live so close to all of those beautiful spots sticking out of the middle of the Pacific! Thanks for taking us along. :thumb

We were just on the Big Island last week and the people we talked to said service was to begin to Kawaihae in December. They did say that was it was still pending a couple lawsuits and approval by the harbor folks. It sounds like a couple of the inter-island airlines are not happy about this.

Agree with jpkailua. New boat won't be here till April '09 or so. Just about to do sea trials down in Mobile.

Airlines aren't the big concern. The people who moved here and now want to to stop all changes or progress are trying to stop the SuperFerry.

For myself, I rode to Oahu in June for a conference with the Mrs. in the SUV. She got her big screen, I got K270's for my KLR. Enjoyed the ride and will do it again.

Not quite ready to do H2 on my bike just yet. Am waiting for the Big Island or Kauai to open up....

    Hey jpkailua,

At least you got some nice pictures. My behind hurts so much that I usually don't stop and take many pictures. Need to look into a better seat. Last time I went to Hana was in July.

Don't know how long you're staying.

Keanae is nice to drive down and take a break by the water.

Not sure if Jaws is up. Every time I went it's been flat but it's definitely off road. (Old pineapple roads with the usual abandoned cars all over the place.) One of these days I'll make it when it's up.

    Nice!

I did the road to Hana on an older Honda Shadow 750 with forward controls and pseudo apehangers. :eek1 Beautiful ride but I sure hated that rental bike about the time I was done.

I'm moving to Kauai part time and am bringing a Honda Reflex scooter with me....if the ferry gets thru the enviro-weenies blocking the harbor, I'm looking forward to taking the scoot to the other islands and exploring, especially the BI.....love to hook up but I understand your natural reluctance to ride with a scooter-guy.....Bruce
