Well, in this group I'd have to admit, the abnormal is the normal.
Should be a good ride. Have to assess Damages to the scooter in the morning. Woke up to my bike taking a nap in my yard. Neighbors heard all about it. Not sure if I placed it poorly on the stand or some asshole came along ..
me either. didnt ponch ride a kawasaki?:huh
I got out for 30 wet miles today - first ride of the year and the pachyderm ran like a champ.
Have I said how much I love my heated gear?!
I saw two newer Beemers on I-96 by Lansing this afternoon. .First bikes I've seen in months. This winter was nothing like last winter. Remember last March when there were a few days in the 80s?....
Got in 90 miles yesterday on the Duc with a weak battery. Have I said how much I hate my heated gear for draining all the juice out of my weak battery 45 miles from home
You guys are crazy! There is still like 6 inches of snow and gobs of salt, sand mix on the roads :eek1. Wish it was warmer up here.
There is no snow east of Grand Rapids. There hasn't been much over there all winter. TC and GR are in the lake effect zone. In fact there is still alot of snow in my yard in SW. GR and almost none a few miles east of me. Thats bullshit!
So Saturday I rode up to GR and visited with some friends on the vespa et4. It was its maiden voyage ever. We are talking it was a display bike, had 70 miles on it when I bought it. They lost the keys so I had to do the new cdi/key set because of the chipped key anti theft junk.
My route was grand river to Davis rd. From Davis through standish onto 21 into GR. Sat was a kind of crappy day around 3pm when I was rolling through Portland. The scooter did impress me though. I can cruise at a comfortable 55/60mph. This doesn't sound like much but this is a dude on a 150cc bike with full gear 230lbs and 10in wheels.
I was pretty tore up by the time I got down town to the club house of the ghost riders branch of the moped army. It was an all day wrench and gather and as soon as I hit the door I had a drink in hand and hand shakes and hugs all around. It was nice because I was fucking cold. My gloves don't have the insulation for 37degree riding.
So after some warming up we went and tore up down town GR. Some comedy thing was going on, along with a hockey game it looked like. I hovered around and visited for a few hours. Ate some eats and said my good by's. The last time I seen this crew I rode my xr650 up and fell asleep riding home. Put the bike down in belding. So I had a few offers for a place to crash but I was on a mission. Plus this Time before leaving my house I had a solid nap. No more of that nodding out riding bizz for me..Working third shift makes it tough to have a life during the day, especially with only one evening off a week.
I had a different route sorted for heading home because the headlights on the vespa..suck balls. The shit is dangerous. I grew up in Wyoming so I new about the back way out to hit Alden nash and then M50. So I rode that way out. Got into lake Odessa. It was about 8pm and it cold mondo cold. Stopped at the shell and drank some water. Hung out inside and ran my hands under water for a few to get feeling back. It was bad for a minute. As soon as the shakes went away I called my dad and told him I'm 45mins out, phones going to be dead. If I'm not there at your house cruise 43 and look for me. It was probably not needed to do that but my parents still worry about me at 27. You know with the last sleep deprived road trip ending with me having a blown knee, fractured right arm and a severe concussion lol. I just wanted to keep an ear open for me. But, I made it.
I rode a big loop, 200miles on the that vespa. It seems to be getting broke in now. Motor runs smoother. It was a great time and it confirmed to me that the bike can do some light touring around Michigan. I'm happy.
That was entertaining. Good way to start the morning. I think we've all had rides like that... Because I'm too old fashion and stubborn, I don't have heated gear and still have cases of the shakes. You should seriously think about doing a ride report, pictures and all. I like to read about overloaded scooters making road trips.
No heated gear for me either, and I love pictures!
Kentnothstine.......Check your telephone text msgs...
Another teaser? Your brutal....When you headed back to Mich-exaco?
Bad news, I haven't been able to get texts for the last week or two. Verizon cut me off since I am on the old Alltel system ( I am low tech when it comes to my phone, it is probably 5 years old) I a currently shopping around for a CHEAP replacement. I guess it is time to get rid of the old flip phone @ $35...
I'm not sure if i can be enough of a word smith to comprise a RR.
I didn't take many pics either, but i do have these.
The next trip should have a destination that takes a day or so. Need a mid point and somebody that wants to ride along.
I think that scooter and a Pacific Coast would make a lovely sight cruising down the road together. Gee, we know anyone with a PC800????
Good point. Isn't a PCH just an 800cc scooter?
Not that there's anything wrong with that....
Nice RR dude!
AND consistent with the riding habits of moped/scooter riders around here.
LONG after me and the other die hards had put our bikes away I saw moped riders going strong all year long.
..You pricks. You sure know how to get my goat....................................................
