People makes the grates out to be a much bigger deal than they are. Its a little unnerving at first because the bike shuffles a little under you, but it's no big deal. You'll be fine.

Ah, I kid. I love that bike. I learned how to ride off road on it, first long trip, etc.

No problem. Just don't spend much time looking down at the water. You could just ride in the paved lane?

With lane maintenance going on 103% of the time, you will end up on the grating at some point. Just look ahead and keep rolling. 233 Harleys cross that bridge daily on weekends......just sayin'

Yep, I've never been over that bridge when I didn't have to ride on the grated lane at least some of the time.

Some son of a bitch burnt down Whites Bridge last night. It was the oldest covered bridge in Michigan. It was between Lowell and Belding and was a nice place to cross the Flat River. Dang :cry

I've ridden on grating before for short distances and it didn't bother me. The one video I found of a couple of Harley riders crossing showed one of them moving from pavement to grating and back again; the main thing I noticed was the video was more than 7 minutes long. That's a lotta bridge!

If two Harley pilots can do it side by side, anyone can.:rofl

Yeah, well they did take up both lanes. :D No offense, but back when I was commuting 60 miles a day April to October in all weather the Harley riders turned into pickup drivers whenever it clouded up. That's how I put 20,000 miles on my Wing in the last six years.

When I was a little kid some zero burned down the Ada covered bridge. It's probably the same loser. He was never caught.

I remember that. Another sweet bridge. At least that bridge wasn't completely destroyed. The Fallsburg bridge is probably next on his list.

Its not like it is hidden somewhere. Its just downstream from Whites Bridge and is the most used covered bridge in Michigan. Once the meth wears off I'm sure the loser doesn't even remember burning down the bridge.:huh He's probably just as pissed as me that someone burnt it down.........Is your DR plated yet? I thought you were going to get a big adventure bike not a smaller one? If your going to be a multi biker your going to need a larger garage..... You bought that for the wife didn't you? You devious dog!:rofl

The little DR is plated, but I am waiting on some parts to come in and working on some maintenance stuff. A 14 year old motorcycle with only 1,800 miles SOUNDS nice, but there is years and years of neglected maintenance to do.

The plan is to ride the DR this summer, keep it and buy a tourer in the spring.

I finally got out for a ride this weekend that was not a commute! :D

I rode up the lakeshore and had lunch in Pentwater. I did some gravel and a short two track which T'd into a farmers field. Did about 300 miles and both the Tenere and newbie passenger did great.

Pentwater. Yum. Brown Bear burger. That person sitting in the chair next to the station looks strange?
