I think whoever steps up to be the host, gets to name the place and date.
Is there a 2014 Westfest in Colorado?
I made WF 10 and would like to make another as I haven't been on any vacation since WF 10. Where and when ?
Lets throw some dates and places out. My vote is to keep it simple (like just show up and be fairly self sufficient) and bring extra beer. Buena Vista works well, so did Lake George. but it does not have to be in Colorado either.
Something simple and self sufficient would be good. Both places in Colorado were nice. There are some spots in Wyoming that might be a lot of fun but would require a higher level of self sufficiency(sp). The southern end of the Big Horn Mountains or the area of Union Pass down past the Green River lakes and the southern end of the Winds. I know a few years ago the Rainbow people took over part of the Big Sandy area, southern end of the Winds and it seemed to work for the BLM and Forest Service. I'm not sure what type of organizational skills that bunch has. The late July early August are good times in Wyoming.
As most of you know, the RMAR Rendezvous use to be an annual ADVRider event, until the powers that be on ADVRider decided we needed to be moved to the 'Upcoming Thread'. We agreed, as RMAR has become an organization unto its own.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out to everyone that West Fest is an event that has always been near and dear to my heart. West Fest was the very first Adventure Riding Event I ever attended and I caught the bug, hook....line and sinker. I will always be thankful for those leaders who stepped up and ran off the West Fest events in the past.
Anyway, I suppose there is a possibility that West Fest might not materialize this year and I wanted you all to know that RMAR now has two events that might be of interest to you all.
We now have two Rendezvous Events in Colorado. http://www.rmariders.org/
July 24-27 is our Rendezvous in Silverton, Colorado. We recently adjusted the dates of this event, moving a week earlier so as not to conflict with the Mile High Jeep Club event in Silverton the week after. Nearly everyone knows how awesome the riding is in the Silverton area.
July 31 - Aug 3 is our Rendezvous in Meeker, Colorado. We are keeping our original RDV date, but moving to Meeker, CO to avoid the congestion issues around Silverton at this time. Meeker is a sleeping giant for Adventure riding. The Wagon Wheel trail system offers 250 miles of dirt that is outstanding for mid-sized and large adventure bikes. The BLM out to the west will give any single track rider all they want in 100's of thousands of acres.
The Meeker event is $55 and the Silverton event is $60, but if you want to attend both, it is $95. You get a TShirt, sticker and meal vouchers to use at restaurants and bars in town.
Both of these events are fundraisers for the Colorado Off-High Vehicle Coalition, which fights legally and legislatively to keep our trails open.
I'm honestly not trying to derail this West Fest thread, but if the event doesn't materialize, I just want you all to know that there are dual/sport and adventure event options for you in Colorado and we would love for you to be our welcomed guest.
If you don't know about RMAR, we are a non-profit, American Motorcycle Association Charter, based out of Colorado Springs, CO. We run off rides as fund-raisers for the likes of COHVCO, the TPA and various trail clubs across the state of Colorado. Our QSR ride this year is in Utah and will fund Ride with Respect out of Moab. We are 100% volunteer and we believe we should be giving back.....because we highly value the trails and dirt roads we get to experience.
Hit me with any questions.....PM please.
I'll probably be at both RMAR events, and WestFest, too, if that happens.
Appreciate it Marty.
Both of these communities need our support and there is great riding in both geographies.
Just a thought, why not have a Westfest that's actually in the West??
1200+ miles from the west coast is not the West! The Midwest maybe. From my, West Coast perspective, it's the Mid East.
Would you have the Eastern rally in Kansas City, Kansas? It's about 1200 miles from the East coast.
Just a thought
Road trip to Oregon.....
no need to over think it, its just a rally that was started many years ago with a certian name. you could have a west fest any where west of the mason dickson or mississippi or kansas city or idaho or utah. Its simply a name and has traditionally been in colorado or new mex, or idaho cause the timing of the year is perfect in those locations. That, and the fact that it is basically the only really cool mountain range kinda in the middle. And its loaded with trails roads and places to stay-closures are at a minimum compared to what is happing in the true west. gas is cheap, lodging isn't out of control, bla bla bla
But its just a name.
Sounds great! let us know when you have it all set up and organized.
The silverton area is super fun to ride with awesome vistas to see. By the way for all of the west coast riders. Anything East of the Mississippi is considered "WEST".
Only those from the east side of the Intercoastal.
Done...it's called Wetfest. 30 minutes from the mouth of the Columbia River. West enough for ya!
Ask and ye shall receive....
I'm guessing there will be no WestFest 2014? Have the RMAR events taken its' place?
This year, at any rate. With two RMAR rallies this year in separate great riding areas, there will be plenty of camaraderie and riding. No one stepped up to organize WestFest this year, so we'll hope that RMAR and WestFest each get their due in 2015.
