Wow! I have a very nice example in my garage right now! '76 model... looks just like the top one in the pic above. :D

I never ride it though and it just sits collecting dust in the corner of my garage... maybe I should make it a winter project to go through it and put it back on the road next spring... or maybe just pass it on along to someone that would enjoy it more... hmmmm

Yes it went to a new home about a year ago. I loved having it and regret having to sell it but I couldn't afford to have it as a second bike and as an 'only bike' it was too focused. If I had access to a good suspension shop in Portugal I might have kept it. The exclusivity of the HP is a big attraction, so much so I Uhmmed and Ahhed a long time between getting the multi and a lovely used HP sport. But the deal I have in getting the multi was just too tempting.

After riding to a event last weekend, I spotted a KTM Super Duke. While the stock version is certainly a pleasure to view, at my age I really wish KTM offered a Gentleman's version, perhaps 2" longer in WB, softer sprung and de-tuned a bit with perhaps 10-15 less HP. Everything else is fine in my eyes.:raabia

    KTM SMT?

Today I'm lusting after an R1. I know of one for sale, cheap. The story is, it has cosmetic damage. An angry x girlfriend smashed up the front and rear fairings with a hammer and used a broken whiskey bottle to scratch the hell out of the gas tank. The jiffy marker came off rather well.

Why do I want it? I figure it would go good on ice. :evil

Woot! would love to see pics of that smashed her upper for sale. Just curious to see how bad things really got. He must have done some shady shi*.

On the Super duke topic. I loved it. Then I rode the 990SMT and loved it even more.

Screen and a decent tank range! Killer bike for sure.

I know that might sound sacrilegious to the KTM squad although with my suggested softened, longer suspension travel & WB for my aching back, the normal abundant HP would only serve to put me on my bum. So I figured, dial it back a bit and enjoy the ride.:D

How come they wouldn't bring it to the US?!?!?! It would compete head-on with the Diavel and would beat it (for me) in a heartbeat!

Diavel? Ahhhh.....no. This Yamaha is maybe making 50 or so horsepower and I know it's not about horsepower but this competes more with a.....a.....well, nothing.

    Suzuki VX800 maybe?

Just picked up an SMT. Not sure I want to devote funds to a smashed up R1 when there are nice pegs to buy, slip ons, etc to find for the 990.

Would like a BMW R1200GS adventure, just because of their look :-D
But it's way too big for me. :-(

I guess I'll stick with my Transalp.
