    I got it from my KTM dealer.

    6300309404430 FRAME PROTECTION SET BLACK

    It also exists in orange.

    Be advised, that this way the chain is "louder" as when running it in the closed sprocket cover, and also the chain lube will spread all around a littlebit more than with the stock one (but no drama).

    Also note that it's not just the sprocket cover, but a frame protector aswell. It looks like this:

    I installed my CJ Designs basic water pump rebuild kit. The original bearings looked almost new at 13,000 miles. It was a good thing that I ordered the big clutch cover gasket from Munns Racing. The original one came off in pieces.

    I did a oil system flush with the cheap stuff and a few caps of Sea foam. It did a great job of removing all the old sludge. I threw in a new oil filter, some fancy oil, and a new air filter to finish the job.

    Next came a cooling system flush with dish soap and some vinegar to rid the system of any casting sand. The system looks pretty spotless now.

    Third came my Dr. Beans fuel pump kit. I highly recommend it. Its cheap, easy to install, works great, and it only took 1 week to make it here to New Orleans.

    Finally, I trimmed down the mudguard on my rear wheal while burping the cooling system. The guard had already eaten a .5" long x 1/8" wide x 1/16" deep groove in one side of the swing arm. I'm glad I caught it early.

    Tomorrow I will install a new Shorai 18amp battery and a Evoluzione clutch slave.

    Thanks for all the help. Its cost a small fortune but soon I think I'll have a pretty bullet proof setup.

    This morning, I decided to (finally) get around to doing my very first tire change ever...going from the stock Pirelli Scorpions with just over 1,000 miles on them to a set of Heidenau K60 Scouts. Figured I'd tackle the most-difficult part first: the rear.

    Wheel came off like a breeze and the trick of using the side stand to break the bead worked like a charm.

    I was so focused on getting the Scorpion off the wheel without scratching the living shit out of my rim that it took me a few minutes to realize something was missing...

    THE TUBE!

    I discovered that I am the proud owner of a tubeless rear wheel on my 2009 990 Adventure. Left a message for the PO to see if he did this conversion or if he got it from the dealer this way. I haven't heard back from him yet, but It's obviously a well-done seal job on the spokes, since I put more than 500 miles on it without even KNOWING it was tubeless and have never had any pressure loss issues.

    Everything went relatively smoothly putting the Heidenau on the wheel... except for that last 6 freaking inches! What a PITA!

    Of course I buggered about a 1/2" of the new bead and was sweating till I heard that, "ping, ping, ping" on inflation. I'm a bit paranoid about it, so I put in 40lbs and am gonna let it sit overnight to see if it holds pressure.

    Damn, I hope it holds... would HATE to have to shove a tube into a wheel already converted to tubeless... just because I fucked up a tiny part of the bead.

    All in all, I like the tread pattern on this tire, but the jury's out till I ride it and see how it feels.

    Wow! Save yourself the mess, and just give it a squirt or two right at the very end, if required at all. Congrats on your first install though. You have the right bike to learn how to change tires. I seem to be changing tires every few weeks, winter and summer. It does get easier.

    I'm a lucky idiot because I've been riding around with my Slime pump AND a plug kit (left-over from my last bike), but no spare tubes or patches... knowing full well that the plug kit was just taking up space and wouldn't do me a damned bit of good with tubed tires. At least now I know the space that the plug kit was taking up wasn't wasted after all.

    Once I know the rear is holding pressure, I'll put it back on the bike and then tackle the front change. Let's see what surprised THAT rim holds. I'm pretty sure it has a tube... :evil

    I'm not that lucky. I had to do mine :deal on both sets!
    I hope your front isn't sealed though. It doesn't work too well in case of a flat.
    Fwiw, 40psi isn't a bad pressure to run for the k60 for most applications. Add another 10psi in it to increase the leak time (if there is one).

    I use wd40 or dish soap in very small quantity and it slips right in. What tire irons are you using?

    Did an oil/filter change. Man that drain hose makes it easy and no mess at all.

    You should be able to tell by looking at the valve stem.

    A Motion Pro T6 (w/ 32mm box end) and 2 Motion Pro extra long steel irons. While the extra-long suckers sure helped, they are responsible for all the damned rim scratches... gonna have to tape them up before I use 'em again. The T6 is nice and smooth, though... doesn't scratch nearly as easily as the extra-longs do.

    I'd say this looks like a tube stem. Would you?

    Good tools. I use the small motion pro version though (a bit less rough around the edges) and maybe easier to pack on the bike. I realized that I only needed on long one for leverage and the smaller ones are easier to manouver. Might want to try them? The tape makes them "stick" and harder to move when they are wedged between the tire and the rim.

    The T6 with the adapter is nice. You can use it as a 1/4 inch drive too with a male to make adaptor.

    Yea, you can be sure by removing the cap and nut and see no seal of the stem. The main reason people don't seal the KTM front rim is that it has no safety bead. Nothing to hold the tire in place in the event of a blowout. Tubed tires seldom blowout.

    That's a tube stem. Otherwise it wouldn't have that little lock nut on it. Keeps the stem from disappearing if the tube spins on the wheel.

    How in the world that rear didn't go flat in a place with no cell reception, when it's getting dark, you have no food, little water, and just heard a wolf howl is beyond me...
