[IMG][IMG][IMG]Welded up a sturdy rack,... fabricated a tail rack,..and fabed up a really sturdy GPS mount all for less than $ 200 !... The rack is heavier wall steel tube than most to protect my kids,... the savings from the ammo boxes and personal labor leaves money left over to feed them !... The GPS mount material is all readily available at any hardware store ($25):lol3..... Touratech= $160..... Rontech= $25

I like the paint job. Always thought that was a good combination on the 800GS.

    November 1st.

Today I took the last trip this season, from my home to GMC (Görans MC) in Karlstad, Sweden. http://www.gmckarlstad.se/

There they will service my bike, clean it, and make it ready for the next season to start in spring, hopefully in March or April.

Here at my home, about 10 o'clock this morning:

We have seen -10 C just a few days ago on a clear starry night, and two days ago we had about 5cm of snow. The snow and the chill was gone today as you can see. Cloudy with sunny spells and +8 C.

To Karlstad it's 100km, this is apprx. half way, the water behind is a small bay of Vänern, the biggest lake in Sweden.

And here I am at GMC (Göran's MC):

I arrived just when they had their lunchbreak, so i went for a bite as well. Next to GMC there is a small burger/hotdog-stand. In this street in Karlstad (Gjuterigatan) there are a lot of MC-dealers and other businesses related to motoring, as you can easely see on the menu at Steffes:

So, when the bike had been handed over to the guys at GMC's tender, loving care, I took the bus home, it took about 1,5 hours.

The ride today was very nice, I could have gone on for hours. But the problem with riding at this time of year, (and the rest of the winter), is that we already have seen frost and snow, and the put salt on the roads to melt the snow and ice. Rust protection on our cars are pretty good, but there is no such thing on a motorbike. If you drive your MC in the salty road-season it will start to rust and corrode very quickly. I made sure that they would hose my bike down today after I left it, because the roads were damp/wet and I suspect the wetness contained salt from last snowfall.

For Norway/Sweden this has, however, been a long season, I took my first trip this spring March 11th, and then the last today. That is very good this far north.

Last night I installed a switchable*, waterproof, direct-to-battery micro USB lead for charging my phone on the bike. I also cabled this into a RAM Aquabox, and silicione sealed it in order to allow me to use my phone on the bike as GPS.

It's not a patch on a dedicated Garmin unit, but I'm not doing enough serious (read work) motorbike travel at the moment to justify replacing my (stolen) Garmin. This'll also allow me to charge small electrical appliances on the bike when away on trips.

*and it has an LED in a prominent place so I won't forget to turn it on/off as often.

I get to visit my bike on weekends. A month ago I re-worked a battery tender to the BMW power plug. Plugged that into the bike and the supply into the outlet above it. I flip the switch when I come home to charge the aging battery back up.

Any riding doesn't look to be in the cards for at least a few more months. :cry

The answer to the question "What did you do to your GS today?" can always be "Took pictures of it!".

    But as always -

Pics or it didn't happen.
