As for seating I prefer the dirtbike one, and I love that kind of chair as shown here, at least as a task chair (you can ignore the sportbike one if it rustles your jimmies)
Lets you use your legs to bear weight instead of just your butt.

I'm glad to see this thread is going strong after 2.5 years, every 10 pages repeats itself, it's like a Philip Glass composition :rofl

Would you rather ride sled on rough track on this:

    Or on one of these?

The newer sled places the rider and mass of the machine more toward the center, maximizing the effectiveness of the suspension and also allowing the rider to absorb the bumps with his/her legs. All snowmobiles are made this way now. I can tell you from experience that the older style sled will beat the crap out of you in the rough stuff. Motorcycles are no different, they perform better when designed to handle rough roads. Most riders do not realize this, especially cruiser riders who spend most, if not all, of their riding planted square on their ass on smooth roads. Touring riders, I would expect to require better ergonomics, especially since touring riders spent more time in the saddle and are riding more varied roads surfaces.

The truth is that 'standard' motorcycles don't sell in the US. It is a shame.

    cheers,
    melby

Ya mine is an old one with M10 suspension. But I don;t think I would want to be one one like the pic of crotch rocket above.

I also wrote I am into touring and that is different from an off road posistion where you use your knees. Look at the GL and Ultra. Why the LT isn't this way, is just the Germans being stuburn.

Harleys are very 'traditional' in their form. Look back a century (or more) and notice how riders sat on the ancestor of the motorcycle:

The rider's position had to make it easy to drive the pedals. Many early motorcycles had pedals used to start the machine up (before clutches & gearboxes). Why is the form still similar after the kickstarter replaced the pedal-starting and now that most employ electric starting?

This got misunderstood. I said Harleys are good for picking up chicks, thats why I dont understand why people would buy one with a solo seat.
