Army surplus aluminum box, mounted on aluminum plate that's been welded between hand hold brackets on each side. Mounted with quick release wingnuts, for easy removal. Inside, front and rear tube, tool kit with tire irons, air-compressor, chain-lube, filter cleaner and oil, quart of motor oil, and....right now, front and rear brake-pads (mine are just about gone, but I won't pull'em off until I have too). Oh, and It's all powder-coated black.

    My "top box"

It's an old metal shop project that I bolted on. I put a bead of rtv on the lid to seal it. Velcro onewrap to keep it closed. I had it mounted on the side behind the plastic, but it was a mpita to get anything out of it.

I won't own a motorcycle without one. Seriously, I use mine so much, if I didn't have it, I'd just use the car. Groceries, work laptop, dog food, garden supplies, firewood, beer, and so on, all get carried in the trunk or sidebags.

I love all motorcycles, but I'm only interested in bikes that I can mount luggage on.

If I cared about what a bike looked like, I'd ride a Ducati or a Guzzi.

Top boxes are a good idea, however it's all in the execution and the proportion of the box, the bike and the attachment.

When i see a medium size bike with a Huge Top box that is mounted way up off the fender and looks like a flying saucer in hot pursuit it just drives me insane.

I understand being able to lock your helmet up however if you can fit your helmet in the box then it's probably too big in my opinion unless you are on a really big bike.

That said i have a Pelican (10x14x6) and a rack on the way for my DR650 so i won't need to wear a backpack all the time when commuting to work.

I have a Pelican 1500 case, I'd like to mouint it on my Bandit. I was going to drill holes through the bottom and bolt it to the luggage rack on the back, but I don't want to put holes in it. How do they mount?

You can purchase kits with all the hardware and a mounting plate that make it easily detachable. Caribou Cases

I like a topbox because of the carrying capacity, but without the extra width involved in panniers of saddlebags.

I have a small Jesse box, which isn't gross, like some of those givis, but has enough room for a full bag of groceries, and I can put my full-face helmet in it when I park.

A sportbike with ANY topbox on it will be ugly. That's a worst-case righ there!
