Hey thought I'd get some local advice. I'm heading out for a little 3 day weekend motorcycle camping trip. From Charleston my first night is at skidaway state park in Savannah. My second night I'll be staying at Fort Clinch state park. What should I check out when I'm down at fort clinch? Any interesting rides or sites? Anywhere good to eat in should check out?

I would skip it and go a bit further south to St. Auggie. JMHO. Then again we live much closer to there than Fernandina - I always got the impression that FB was so spread out in comparo to St. A? They have a fort as well and much more stuff to see and do around it. Like A1A Ale Works and St. George street and fun walking part of town. Worth a few hours of you time if your into old FL crap, food and suds.

    Have a safe trip.

If size matters, then see FT C. the cannons are huge & much less tourist.
Then take A1A to the ferry boat to cross the St Johns River & ride south south on the same A1A to St Augustine to see the other very neat fort. There is yet another fort tiny but interesting at the Matanza inlet area. Just stay on A1A south of St Aug about 15 miles or so & you will see the signs to the State Park, there is a little boat ride to the fort but it is worth your time. The reason for this tiny fort is very interesting. Plus the bloody history is strange to say the least.

Good lucks on your FT tours.

Mainly I'm going to fort clinch instead of st aug because I've been to st aug many times. I grew up just south at Flagler Beach. I've never really explored the Jax area.

you can run over to Mayport a cool little fishing town Florida's oldest bar is at Fernandina Beach look at the ships at Mayport Naval station from across the river though being from Charleston that might be a little old. Theres Little Talbot park and Big Talbot park close by go to St. Mary's Ga. and take a trip to historic Cumberland Island. Amelia Island can be interesting.

Checked out Ft Clinch a couple of months ago with the family. Cool place! It's a big fort compared to Castillo de San Marcos (St Auggie Fort).

    Point! inside joke :jack

Lots of restaurants in Fernandina Beach. Stay away from the Crab Trap. I wasn't impressed with the food or service. :deal

The campground at Fort Clinch was pretty nice IMO.

Grrr I was supposed to be there this weekend but I'm still waiting on some camping gear to arrive in hoping to grab the North Florida tag while I'm in the area.
