My first thumper looked like this.

I was 15 and riding a Cushman Eagle to work at the A&W. When I was 16 I traded it for a Hodaka Ace 90.

60's 250cc BSA single. Bought it in England, rode it there, and shipped to USA in a crate. Came to the customs dock with gas can etc and crowbar and rode it home!

Mine was a 1970 pea green Honda QA50. It was unstoppable and could climb up anything. It never let me down or broke down after billions of miles and countless full speed (22mph) launches off of a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood I set up as my Evel Knievel jump ramp in the back yard.

I remember starting it up after many years of neglect during the blizzard of 1978 here in RI and delivering food and scripts to family members stranded at work or away from home.

I had it in original, unrestored running condition till 2009 until I loaned it to a cousin for his son to enjoy and his dumbass mom went shopping and left the garage open with bike in plain sight. I still want to choke her whenever I see her. :baldy:baldy:baldy:baldy:baldy

    This is a great thread.

    an old timer here...

First bike was a 1968 Roma TR-350. 50cc Jawa/CZ 3speed powered mini mc. It was early 70's and I was an apartment dwelling 10 year oud urbanite. I loved that bike! ...I learned to be a mechanic because of it.

Later, my first real motorcycle was a 1979 XL250s. I still have it to this day.

Mid 50's BSA Bantam 125, green one like this:

They came in green, grey and maroon (real class!) but the green ones were the most common. Went from that to a '56 Matchless G80 500cc single.

I had one of these, a 1978 (I think, from faded memory) Suzuki x7 250cc stroker. It went like the clappers but the rear shocks were stuffed. Nevermind, it still went like the clappers!
Mine was a black one! I got it cheap 'cause the seller had joined "the orange people" and the bike wasn't the correct colour.

1968 Bonanza Chopper minibike, 4hp Tecumseh engine when I was 5 years old. This this was even street legal and my dad and his buddies would cruise it around the neighborhood.

It was traded on a 1972 Yamaha 60cc mini enduro which we still have today.

First street bike was a '72 SS-350 Sprint followed two years later by a '80 GS750E

Honda SL70. I think it cost the princely sum of $200, but over the years it's easily cost $100,000 plus. :lol3

Honda SL70, maybe a 1971, bought at a neighborhood garage sale for $100, around 1976. My father bought a CL100 too, I think it was $150, and my sisters rode it until I was tall enough to ride it.

1st was a Cushman Super Eagle bought new for $440 from C.W. Johnson's garage in West melbourne Florida. 1st real motorcycle was a 1959 T-20 Tiger Cub bought for $560 from Hams Cycle Center in Eau Gallie Florida. Does anyone know if Maurice Ham is still living and where. Please send me a PM if you know.
