I attached the Whelen to the IQ-160 and the flicker is noticeable from the periphery, not so much when viewed directly. The Whelen is damn bright when viewed straight on. I don't have any riding experience with it on, as my bike is now parked till March. I think the stock LED tail light on my bike isn't all that bright on bright days, so the Whelen operating as a running and brake light should be good.

I have it recessed below my Givi topcase rack so I will get my riding buddy to give me his feedback once we're back on 2 wheels.

I have not tried the Hyper-X driver. They specify it will work with up to three of the 1 watt lights but the drawing shows the LEDs wired in series so that does not mean it can handle 3 watts. $15 isn't much of a gamble for somebody interested, about the same as a tank of fuel.

Would be nice if someone offered a controller that had the initial blink effect, combined with running light circuitry for the Whelen LIN3 and turn signals.

So I don't have to use the diode/resister combo PLUS the flasher unit, PLUS a turn signal solution.

    Or do they?

This is exactly what the IQ-160-TS controller does. It drives two LEDs, a left and right, so they operate as tail lights, flashing brake lights, turn signals and emergency flashers.

Hi. I have been reading this thread with interest and I wanted to thank everyone for the ideas. FYI this solution http://www.oznium.com/forum/topic22468 worked for me to turn a red Whelen LINZ6 into a running and brake light combination. (With LED set to pattern 25: i.e. steady burn) The dimmer allows adjustment of intensity of the running light for day time or night time. I'm now wondering whether I can add a second dimmer in the circuit to adjust brake light intensity too.

That was a lot of work for getting more light.

Well in my case not *more* light but rather *a* light, given that I had blocked the stock one by adding a hitch rack and case. Stay positive! :super:super:super

Old thread but still a good one. I have the Whelen TIR3 on a couple of bikes. Anyone following may not see the bike stop light but they are definitely gonna see the TIR. I have the Back-Off module on another bike & a friend has the strip--neither has the effect of the TIR. In fact, if viewed slightly off to the side the module is not even visible....

Those Whelen lights are pricey but definitely worth every penny. I have a couple of friends that have light bars of Whelen lights for tail, turn & stop lights. Stevie Wonder could see those.:deal

i used a piece of aluminum angle iron to attach the lights to the bike. i used 2 lightbars next to each other to spread the loght out. they are both running/brake lights

It's so damn bright, you can't look straight at it... and very noticeable... I've noticed its effect on cars stopping quite a bit further back from me. The Skene IQ controller makes it.

    **Update**

The manufacturer of the 36 Mode Flasher Unit has added a new unit that is said over 1000 modes of adjustability, as if one needs that :eek1.

If you watch the Youtube video linked to on the product page, you can see some of the increased conspicuity that can be added with the additional modes. I'm happy with the original 36 mode unit I'm using but some may find the new unit more useful to them.

Sadly http://www.ledsbyrobert.com/ seems to have disappeared. Any recommendations of sources for bright LED modules? the TIR3 is widely available, but not modified for dual-mode operation.
