FS roads out of Randle and Packwood.
Finally, this winter we can snowmobile out of Orr Creek SnoPark instead taking the 21 road to Johnson Creek and unloading there.
Big difference in elevation and snow level between the two SnoParks....21 road entailed riding lots of gravel to get to the snow, not kind on equipment!
Also, having 23 road open again will allow us to camp at Takhlakh Lake again this summer...we've been missing going there for a longggg time, since the road washed out!
Had a great ride. Didn't see any snow or fog, just a little rain and lots of standing water. Headed up the Waddell Basin East trail and took things kinda slow and easy since it was slick and I was riding solo.
After re hydrating here I took the West basin trail. I eventually ran into this
I didn't want to mess with it so I backtracked to the last trail crossing and took the road that parallels the trail. I followed that road up the hill and did an upper section of Twin Peaks trail then worked my way back down to what I think was the West Basin trail and took that back to the truck. It was a fun loop.
I'm glad to see the 23 road open again. Hope it lasts through the winter. There's some good stuff past that washout.
Hey Joe glad to see you had a good ride.Things went way south for me after we spoke. I lost a really good friend and it will be awhile before I have some free time.
Oh shit, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope things work out. Will let you know the next time I head out. Getting away for half a day or so can help take your mind off of other stuff.
On Friday, I rode from the County Line Entrance (parked across highway from (old) Straddleline ORV Park. Then went south to Porter Creek and back north via mostly the North Rim Trail. Holy snotty slippery leaves Batman. Numerous trees down. Two forced me to turn around and find a new trail (Larch Mt blocked) and then North Rim (at 47.00231 -123.23260). The North Rim downed tree was at a tricky angle and very slippery. It wouldn't be hard for two or more to get over it, but I wasn't going to try it solo. Alas, Capitol Forest will be closing in a few short days for the winter.
You wouldn't be able to post or PM where this closed golf course is, would you? I'm familiar with a few in the Oly area, but this one doesn't look familiar...
Damn Sean, I almost texted you Thursday night to see if you wanted to go out Friday. I had plans for it, but didn't hear back from another contact. Managed to get some much needed clean up done instead, and got the ride in yesterday. Mostly paved, but did explore some new places down around Kapowsin.
I've done some Kapowsin exploring. There are some nice spots. Radar and crystal ball guild show low likelihood of precipitation tomorrow. I may go explore on two wheels in the Pierce/Thurston County area.
New to advrider.com. Bought 2015 KLR on Nov. 19. Live in Oly area. Went for 90 mile ride on Nov. 25. Capital Forest (some single track took the panniers off), Hwy. 12, Chehalis Mox Rd., McCleary, Shelton, home.
If you lot are up to nothing tomorrow, our little South Sound street riding group is heading west over the Narrows Bridge to ride around the back roads to Manchester and some other areas on the Kitsap Peninsula. We don't have a real solid plan because we don't know how everyone is going to feel in the slightly miserable weather (low to mid forties and drizzling). Nevertheless, we'll be out there. If interested, meet at 10 the Starbucks at the west end of 512 (10314 South Tacoma Way, Lakewood, WA). We'll have some caffeine and figure out the ride while it warms outside ever so slightly. Why not?
Would like to go on the ride and meet some fellow riders (being a noob and all) but my wife got us tickets to go see Tower of Power at Jazz Alley in Seattle. She thinks we should go and make a day of it and that works for me since she paid for part of the bike as a birthday present a couple of weeks ago.
That's a good birthday present plus a day and night in Seattle isn't so bad; you are doing the right thing. We ride every month all year around and we normally meet in Olympia so feel free to try us out another time. I'll try to be good and post the next ride a few days earlier.
Did somebody say Kitsap? Life is too full for spontaneity but, I'm working on it. Ping me the next time ya'll head this way.
Arthritis has put me down this fall bad, I did ride by your place on my Honda trail 70 last month, I beeped when I went by, but the 6v horn sounds like I sneezed.
That sucks. I've wondered where you got off too. I sold my GS a couple months ago, largely because I got dang near what I paid for it 18 months ago. I bought a R1200ST - just like an RT but low bars and 100 lbs lighter. Made the mistake of letting my wife ride it and now we've got two of them...
Looks like an aesome trip! Thanks for sharing
I will be putting on break in miles on my new bike this saturday 12-9 around Buckley Wilkerson and Eatonville... if anyone wants to join up let me know? thanks Eric..
