    Hello all,

I'm looking for some feedback as to which Adventure model might be the most suitable for me..

I have narrowed it down to either the 950S, 990S, or 990R, as I would like the added off road capability.
I'm fairly tall 6'3" and already own an SE which is in Europe. The purpose for this bike is more road duty with a pillion and some off road as well of course.

I'm pretty familiar with the 950 and love the carburated feel, but how is the 990 compared to the 950 power wise? Is the fuel injection pretty smooth? I know the FCR41 kit will raise the 950's power pretty close to the 990 range, but is it worth it?

I will keep searching this section and elsewhere, but any info is appreciated.

    Hi, and what a question!!

    You already own the SE....

So a 990 Adv is rather pointless? Buy a 30l Safari tank for your SE, same thing, less hassle, and still less weight....

Or for pure road duty get a 1190...

The 990 is rough as hell, terrible low down performance. All 990 are in this basket. The 950 has less power, and given the SE weight with the adventure you notice this (I know, just switched from a 990 Adv R to a 950 SE). To clarify that; the SE feels like more power than my 990R... WAY more power. That weight makes a massive difference.

Hence = get a 1190 for the road. You can still offroad it... Or if too rough, then of course you will be on your SE!

If budget is the issue, then go for a nice 990 2009+, and ideally an R, as they are nuts :) (tall...)

Sorry, bit random, but hope this helps....

    I forgot to mention...

The SE is in Europe, the ADV would be here for the States.

70% on road w the girlfriend (finally got one who likes bikes), 30% off road.

The 1190 R is definitely an outsider as a candidate mostly due to the money.

So you feel the SE has more power than the 990 ADV?? Is it THAT much heavier?

The 950 SE and SM feel faster because of 40 lbs less weight. But, they are not smoother. They are more buzzy above 4200rpm than the 990's.

Get a 09-up 990 and put on the 19/17 wheels and a trunk for a backrest. Very smooth upto 5000 rpm or about 80 mph.
