Just out of curiosity, why are BMW GS models so over represented on this site, followed closely by oilhead boxers? I mean there are WAY more threads in those 2 categories than any other bike. Did this used to be a BMW only forum, or are these just the most popular adventure bikes by such a wide margin?

I think you answered your question, but there are other bikes represented as well. This is particular to the GS series on this portion.

Maybe because BMW and KTM are the prime makers of serious BIG adventure bikes.

I love so many things about my BMW, especially the Turn Signal switch setup.
Why in hell would someone what that antique switch everybody else uses?.

Could the answer be that thumpers are under-represented because of thumertalk.com? :dunno

I don't think so. After a site rewamp about two years ago..... the owners messed up going with the wrong site developer, that lost a large amount of threads.....Links no longer worked.... and the new format turned off many old timers...... and they spend less, and less time there. Just imho.

Maybe it's because all the KLR owners are out in the middle of nowhere in South America or Africa or Mongolia rather than sipping Starbucks and posting over the free WiFi. That wild uncivilized lot can't post from places like that.

Its a reference to what usually happens to threads about silly stuff...

That and the OP posted in the parallel universe... aka twin cylinder BMWs with chains

I rode a honda 125 from Indonesia to Europe in 1976. In hind sight I would have been better off on a BMW. Dave

no. thumpertalk leans heavily more towards dirtbikes not dual-sports.
bike specific thumper forums have more info than the thumper forums here however.

I notice that the boxers and parallel twins get their due attention in GSpot, and rightly so. But why do BMW thumpers have to go to a different section? Seems they get quite a bit of real world GS exposure (and maybe even more so than the boxers). Not trying to trigger a range war… I'm just sayin'…. :zilla

Well, I can't speak for the rest of them, but I'm not tall, not dark, not handsome and I have a small penis. I needed some way to look superior. I try to keep my mouth shut in order not to remove all doubt. It's actually my mom's GS but she lets me wash it at the end of the driveway on saturdays while wearing her Rallye 2 pro gear. After, I take it into the back yard and put mud cakes on it. I mail order stickers from far away places and slap those on the cases. I read all the ride reports so I can talk about places I've never been. Hell, sometimes I post contradictory opinions on tires, oil and suspension even tho ma won't let me ride. One day, when I'm man enough I'll get my own.

My name is Reaver, and I have a problem. :baby
