My state has no helmet law.

I always hang it on the giant ass handle bar mirror, clutch side and close the shield, it keeps it dry.

hanging it on the peg would fill it with water if it rains?
does it ever rain where you are?

Not to mention, my boots are on my pegs sometimes, and they have dirt, mud, dog shit, chicken shit, and who knows what other sort of nasty E. coli vehicle that I would prefer to not be in my helmet on them..

Uh, a lot of us around here still wear helmets even when it's not required by law.

Would you still ride if someone stole your helmet?

I have and we have a helmet law. Was only a couple miles but I got stopped anyways. Cop asked where my helmet was and I told him someone stole it off the bike. He asked about filling out a report but I figured it wouldn't do any good.

Over here, if we were seen on the open road, we'd be ticketed, fined, told not to ride etc etc. There'd be very little sympathy.

Slightly different in the cities but not by much - same law, more leeway.

I am one of those who have never had a helmet stolen. I usually set mine on the tank, and cover it with my jacket as long as I am within sight of the bike. Otherwise, it goes with me.

As for the worries about "things" ending up in a hanging helmet, I will tell you that in Flaw'da, the worst thing you can do is set the helmet (or jacket, or gloves) on the ground, or sidewalk during a rest stop because of the fire ants. Evil little bastards, and they are EVERYWHERE.

Thanks for all the replies. Was only asking because I wouldn't put my lips within kissing distance of most places I walk.

I leave mine on the right side passenger peg of my RT all the time. (single exhaust is on the opposite side) But I live in a place where shit-baggery is relatively uncommon.

There is also the issue of what are your boots bringing to the footpegs that you don't want on your head. I know for a fact that some of the places my boots have been I would not want my head to touch the floor, that same stuff gets transfered to your footpegs.... :deal

See, this is where I would get into trouble. "Oh, you notice me without my helmet, but you're never around when the helmet gets stolen..."

Back to the topic at hand, the weather in this state can be unpredictable. Since I tend to ride my bike to work most of the time, I bring the helmet in with me. I once left it on my EX500 while I was at work, and left work to find a thunderstorm - and a helmet full of water.

And kiddies, if you have an EX500, move that helmet lock to the grab bar. Just one bolt and a little drilling. That way the helmet doesn't melt on the exhaust.:lol3
