Mules may be a better choice than a horse.

Our last 2 are in the pasture.....6 ft. under! Kept as 'pets' for 6 & 7 years after they were past there prime for riding, former hunter-jumpers!
And now I have to mow that field....it never ends!

As Claude pointed out but forgot to mention ,You can milk a Horse
of which you make alcholic beverages from, and then theres the hair to tie your shelter together with.
Stainless, from the land of horses.
To stay ON TOPIC I rekon some would argue that owning a real Horse compared to a Ural may be cheaper and easier??
I doubt it , but i know nothing of either!
Owning 2 Urals, and living on a horse farm I can say without any doubt that Urals unlike horses: cost less, require less maintenance, are more reliable, are less temperamental, are suitable for daily transportation, don't run away, smell better, don't attract flies, and don't require daily mucking.
There's a couple of similarities Urals have to horses: they make rude and unusual noises, and their thoroughbred aficionado brethren are equally full of........commentary.
Maybe we need to change the name of this thread to "Why you should NOT buy a Horse"
When a parent asks my wife if it's expensive to own a horse: "How much money do you have?"
In case you missed it.
The Russians got more than half of the Bmw factorys when Berlin fell in 1945 ,and even though they stole tons of technology - the Ural was born. Great thread , I’m still laughing - fart jokes and Russian motorcycles I guess. Lol.
First Ural were produced in 1941/42.

Yep, been there done that with horse ownership for over 40 years. Luckily the horses and boats are long gone but motorcycle ownership still continues. Oh and a few cows are still around.
And not long after the war, they quit producing the flathead R71 replica
As I understood it, the Govt wanted a supply of spares and replacement vehicles for all the military bases (for patrol and to avoid retraining mechanics). So the molds/plans were sent to Kiev where KMZ was created to service the military and leaving IMZ to sell the overhead valve 650 to the farmers and other too-poor-to-buy-a-car civilian domestic market. KMZ did that with what ended up as the K-750 which was the original flattie design, still being made up until '69), Of course KMZ also went on to develop its own stuff (which should likely have its own thread).
Last year of the M70.
Who has a Well sorted / Debugged Ural?
